Personal Narrative: My Experience With Social Work

Personal Growth Paper There is an old saying that curiosity killed the cat but in October of 2013 curiosity was the link to a future I didn’t know existed. All throughout high school I believed by the time I was in 21 I would be a notorious scientist, but with struggling in school my future was becoming more and more a fantasy. To make ends meet I decided to work, hoping I could get a job that would get my foot in the door to some of the big biotechnology companies. But after months of waiting no second call ever came. So I had to go with a job that I was not interested, being an after school program director. After a few short months the in-between job became something I enjoyed and spent all my time and effort. Two and a half years later in October my mother begged me to take a night off to go to a festival. After some investigation I found that I was at a residential treatment center for teens, I was quickly hired and only a few months later I decided to study social work. In this paper I am going to discuss, my future goals and the reasons I am considering social work, my experience with social work and how I envision it and last my comfort level with diversity. …show more content…
Since changing my degree my goal is to achieve a Masters in Social Work. After achieving that goal I have left my plans pretty open. I would love to stay with Utah Youth Village and maybe work in one of their parenting programs like Families First. Or another option working the Medical field, but what I like about social work degrees is the flexibility and diversity. This brings me into one of the main reasons why I chose social work, which is the flexibility of the degree. The average person changes jobs twelve to fifteen times which is an average of years be occupation. (Doyle,2017) I hold about three years per job so I feel this degree will give me the opportunity to become well developed in different
