Personal Narrative: My Experience With PNC Bank

Banks now are significantly different from what they were back then. Currently, it is important to read the fine text which oftentimes reveals the scams banks use to bait individuals into opening accounts with them. I learned the hard way through my experience with PNC Bank in New Jersey. At fifteen years old, I got my first job working as a waitress in a restaurant. As soon as I received a few paychecks I realized that I needed to put my money away in a safe place where only I could have access to it. The first idea that came into my head was to open a checkings account with PNC Bank. In total from working a week or so as a waitress, I had earned approximately 100 dollars. Upon, arriving home I checked my mobile banking app and my account had expectedly so dropped to 50 dollars. After not using the card for an additional two weeks I decided to check my account. When I saw the numbers under my name I almost had a heart attack because my account had dropped from having 50 dollars in it to having me owe the bank 105 dollars. Later on, after contacting PNC Bank I had discovered that they charge account below $60 an overdraft fee of 10 dollars per day as well as a monthly maintenance fee of $5 a month. I was outraged, simply because I was never informed about any overdraft fees and or any maintenance fees. PNC Bank had practically robbed me blind, their neglect towards their customers is appalling. They did not properly inform me of the fees and rules that accompany the checking account that I have opened. When I attempted to close the account they insisted that I pay the 105 dollars I “owed” and although I wanted to protest and fight the charges I thought it best to just pay the money and get
