Improved Essays
My experience with firearms is extensive through my 12 years of experience in the Marine Corps and now as a P.O.S.T. certified police officer. I have attended numerous range courses that have put me through many challenging scenarios designed for experts only with a pistol, shotgun and assault rifle. Furthermore, I have participated in Active Shooter training with the Department of Homeland Security, University of Tennessee Police Department and Roane State Police Department to name a few. Currently, our department requires all of our officers to attend two range courses a year and the mandated yearly in-service course to maintain our certification as law enforcement officer. It all began during the summer of 2015. I had just taken my beat- up fossil of a john- boat off of Gun Lake to fish in a different lake, and were going to put it back on Gun Lake at my grandparent’s house. After rinsing the multitude of worm guts and dirt out of it, we were going to put it back into the lake. My grandparent’s neighbor, Hal, got the chance to come along with me. We vaulted into what we called the “Rhino”, a quad equipped with a driver’s and passenger’s seat.…

The Thrill in the Kill…….And What it Does After Elham I. 8-1 I’m a deadbeat. There is no way to sugarcoat it (and frankly, I don’t want to). Being as profound and logical as I am, I decided to do something aside from my part-job at a convenience store: rob a bank. I probably would have gotten myself killed, but hey, no more having to reject minors for alcohol, right?…

Americans in Arms Guns, both the savior, and destroyer of our nation. They can both protect, and diminish. Guns have always been a very sensitive subject, with people all have very different opinions. This is why we should have gun control, because let's face it, guns are the problem here, not the people who use them. Guns are too easy to get ahold of, very easy to find, and too dangerous to be allowed into the general public.…

Sitting in my homeroom anxiously waiting for the morning announcements to come on, so I can hear who won the Student Government Association campaign. As usual the principal comes on saying the daily broadcast news, but today was unusually apathetic. It sounded as if he had a croak in his throat that wouldn’t let him speak vociferously about the upcoming news. Eventually, our principal was able to gather his words to say, “Today, we have lost one of our fellow students due to gun violence. This needs to be put to an end, every other week I cut on the television and I see another one of our youth dead.…

Growing up in Thurmont, MD near the Catoctin Mountain National Parks, I was always considered an outdoor kid. My parents got me interested in hunting & fishing and hunting became my true passion since my first hunting experience at the age of 9. I started to trap shoot at the age of 13 and have grown to be a nationally-ranked competitive trap shooter and a shooting ambassador. I have begun to work with my shooting club to understand the working of a sporting clay and trap club, how competitions are organized and the preparation and work needed before, during and after the shoot and how the club runs these events. The purpose of a gun to many is a tool used for ending another’s life, but to me it is a tool meant for protection and security. Around a year ago my apartment was broken into by a con artist who had tricked me into showing him my room, he had told me he was a repair man here to replace the old locks with some newer ones. At the time I was fresh out of my parents’ house so I was quite gullible unfortunately, and let him "fix" all my locks. He had planned to break in when me and my roommate were supposed to be at school, however he miscalculated and we were both there.…
