Personal Narrative: My Experience With Cheerleading

Improved Essays
I always felt like everyone had a special talent accept me. Some could paint, act, play sports, but that was never me. I was just a little girl being bullied for having a blanket and sucking my thumb in first grade. Always left out and being told I would never amount to much, took a big toll on my grades. All throughout elementary school I was in the “special” classes. In fifth grade I moved to middle school. I was shy and didn’t have many friends. Still on the hunt for my talent, I saw a poster for cheerleading tryouts. I didn’t have much experience with this, but what the heck, I decided to try it. From the second I tried out, I was hooked. It was like a drug and I kept coming back for more. My entire life turned around, my grades soared, I got a new group of supportive friends, I moved to all honors classes, and I got a new attitude towards life. Finally I was happy with being me. …show more content…
We needed one more person to complete our competitive team and we finally found someone. Before this boy came, I was front and center for the entire routine. I had the sassiest parts and best stunt groups until Chris came. Since we already had two boys on the team, I was center and they were behind me, so the formation was even. Now since we had three boys, Chris had to be in the center. It was a week until Nationals and I had to learn a new routine. I was moved to the back, had the shakiest stunts, and worst of all, I had to watch someone else shine during a routine that was choreographed for me. There was nothing I could do, so I practiced my new parts every night and learned them like the back of my hand. I couldn’t let my team down. Now, Chris is one of my best friends. Cheer isn’t about one person; it is about an entire team working together and succeeding. They are my family. The gym is my home away from home, and whenever I have a bad day, I have 19 other teammates to support

After we danced I watched the older kids dance and I thought they were so cool because they all did their dance insync. From then on I wanted to be exactly like them…

There is No I in T E A M A lot of the time cheerleaders are stereotyped as stuck up, pretty girls, with the mindset of being better than everyone else, well that is not always true. Being pretty is not only an outside appearance but, it is also the attitude you portray when dealing with others at Maumelle High School taught me a valuable lesson. Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…

I went to elementary and middle school in Monroe City, before transferring to South Shelby my freshman year. That was the best decision I’ve made so far in my life. At first, I was worried. I didn’t think that any high school could be so friendly that they didn’t actually need locks on the lockers. But, after my mom talked to the cheerleading coach at the time, I realized that maybe this school is somewhat nice.…

I walk into cheerleading tryouts (confidence radiates from my smile) this is moment of truth for my seventh-grade year. I’ve seen every “Bring it on” ever made, so I am pretty much a cheerleading professional. Everyone is beginning to warm-up and stretch, so I begin to follow what everyone else is doing. But after the first few minutes I soonly realise that I should have watched a few less “Bring it on” movies and maybe just the high school cheer squad. Despite being completely wrong about cheer, cheerleading prepared me for my future by letting me know things will not always go my way, but it is my job to make the best of failing.…
