Personal Narrative: My Experience With Cancer

There I was, 16 years old at Doctor Dean’s office. It was the middle of summer and I went in for a checkup I was waiting for doctor Dean to come in with the blood work. Mom had a weird look on her face like she didn’t know where she was or what she was doing. After about 45 minutes, doctor Dean entered the room and sat down; he said “there is no easy way to say this but Nicole you have cancer.’ My mom let out a yell and started to cry. I was so shocked; I didn’t know what to do so I just started asking questions like: ‘how long have I had it,” “how will this affect my cheerleading,” “can I still cheer?” That’s when I made the vow not to tell anyone about my cancer. Summer was about to be over and my cancer had only gotten worse. It was almost …show more content…
It was so nice just to go out and have fun, and not having to worry about my cancer. After the dance Alex took me home and before I got out of the car he looked at me and said, “You look amazing for a girl with cancer.” I said, “How did you know about that”? He said, “I talked to you mom on why you miss so many days of school, don’t worry I want tell anyone that’s your information to give not mine.” I said, “thank you.” Alex said, “If you need anything just let me know” then kissed me. The year was coming to its end and Alex and I are having the time of our lives with our new found love if you will. I said to my mom, “Of chorus I knew she was going to say no I was ready to beg for it.” Mom said, “Yeah you can go.” I said, “Mom, I need to do this. Wait, what did you just said yes.” Mom said, “Yes.” Alex came to get me for a picnic that evening. I told him that I could go camping. Camping was fun but now we are back in school. I told the girls on the cheer team. Now this is my year and I don’t want to hide anymore so I ask the schools office if I could have a school wide meeting. The office said, “Yes.”I told, “Alex what I was going to do and he stood by me all the

I have chosen Cancer as my favorite constellation because it is the sign I was born under. Latin for "crab", it is the dimmest of all the zodiac constellations and used to be the Sun's most northerly position in the sky. It is located in between Gemini (to its west) and Leo(to its east). It is best known among stargazers as home of Praesepe, an open cluster. Cancer is most well known in Greek mythology as the crab sent by the goddess Hera to help the hydra kill Heracles.…

The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…
