It was a casual day when I was in my third class of the day. I fell asleep while writing an essay well I think I did. Anyways I woke up on an island and tried to call my parents but I had no service and my phone was on twenty five percent battery. So I turned off my phone so it didn't die in my pocket incase off an emergency. I was really scared because I didn’t even know where I was or how far I was from land to get help.

I got up to see what was around the island there where a lot of coconut trees around it. The island look like a trapezoid almost. there were some crabs that I could try to trap and cook on an fire to eat it. There was a old campfire but think someone had to survive here to. After seeing that campfire it creeped me out because it made me think that someone's old skeleton was buried somewhere on this island.

There was a docked fishing boat on the island I decided to explore it to find a flashlight for the night or something useful. I found a nice kid my age named evan he was living on the boat but he is really nice we decided to be friends since we both needed help living on an island. but he had found a water purifier so we could have fresh water. It is really fun having evan on the island helping me out with things like moving rocks in the water because there were a of rocks were I wanted to build

I tried to make rocks say help on the edge of the island but the waves from the ocean would wash them away. We had waved our hands at planes so we didn’t waste flares witch that didn’t work at all. We even tried pushing the boat in the water for the waves to drag us but to shore but the boat was to heavy for me and evan to push in the water. We tried building sheds to say help but they weren't strong enough to stay that

As the daughter of parents who love to travel, I’ve had the pleasure of travelling across Canada and America as well as a few other countries from a young age. I have visited the loud and bustling streets of Tokyo and the ethereal gardens in Kyoto, stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon, walked the strip in Las Vegas, and watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean in Martha’s Vineyard. Although I should be able to look back on a childhood filled with events and memories from trips, I find it difficult to recall most vacations without a visual prompt. When I flip through old family photo albums, I don’t recall much more than what is shown in their pages. The outdated clothing, the people, and the locations are seen in the images, and therefore…

Stories about survival have been popular since, virtually, the beginning of time, as survival is the most important and primitive aspect of human lives. It is the force that drove our evolution and refined us to our current stature today, so it is no surprise that we are amused by tales of robust endurance against the most severe circumstances. The stories The Inheritor and Side Bet are two prime examples of our fascination with these types of tales, but, when comparing the two stories of survival, one reigns as superior, with more vivid details of the setting, greater and more dynamic characters, and a more compelling plot. Between the two stories The Inheritor by Frank Roberts, and Side Bet by Will F. Jenkins, Side Bet prevails as the better…

Whitney’s depiction of his past experiences with the island has an ominous tone. The eeriness with which Whitney felt a chill while there was no wind gives the impression that something extremely strange and abnormal is present, thereby giving the island an aura of ominous mystery. In addition to creating a mysterious aura, the absence of natural phenomena develops suspense early in the story, as it is associated with frightening scenes. Furthermore, Connell starts the story with a discussion, in which Whitey tells Rainsford about Ship-Trap Island, a place that “Even cannibals wouldn 't live in” (Connell 1). Whitney only tells Rainsford that the island is dangerous and cannot provide an…

Known as the “Vanishing Island”, Isle de Jean Charles is located in Louisiana and is quickly eroding due to climate change and rising waters from the current pipelines-- it has been called home to residents for over one hundred and seventy years, and the island is vanishing from underneath them. Vaughn-Lee, the director, composed this New York Times op-doc in hopes to reach out to society about the matters that are taking place in Isle de Jean Charles, so authority could take action of the sinking shorelines and rising waters. The director most likely relates to this video because he lives near the sea in Point Reyes, California with a population of only eight hundred eighteen people people as of 2008. “Vanishing Island”, directed by Emmanuel Vaughn-Lee, is a documentary that appeals to pathos through the visual imagery and interviews to inform society of the problems that take place on the island so action may be taken. For the opening scene, Vaughn-Lee appeals to the audience through pathos…
