Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Working With Young Children

The reason I wrote this comic was because of my experience of working over the summer with young children. There were several events that pushed me toward having this experience. Through working with young children where I was a counselor at a summer camp I learned the how much people evolve since childhood. While watching the young children I got to see some events that paralleled many of the experiences that I had when I was a child. The first experience that I had that reminded me of my childhood was when I was at the park and I wanted to play on the swings. The child that was on the swings at the time did not want to let me use it, even though he had been on the swings for what seemed like an eternity. This situation very much parallels many of the problems that young children tend to have. Many young children have problems sharing as they do not fully understand how what they does affects others. This reminded me of the situation this summer when I saw a child take a toy from another child because they didn’t have a chance to play with it yet. There …show more content…
These panels (3. 3-4) show my reaction to learning about how I felt about being upset that someone took the toy that they were playing with. In the fourth panel it can be seen that I am upset that the problem that he is having is not a major problem, although through reflecting on my past experiences I realize that even though these problems may be small to adult, they can mean the world to these children. This taught me to have a lot of patience with children, so that rather than getting annoyed I realize that to them this is a crisis point in their lives, a point that they may soon forget. This quality in children, to quickly move on, can be seen on page five of the comic. Seeing that Everett went from being upset with Jane, to asking her to marry

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

Gerard Jones, “Violent Media Is Good for Kids” seems to be an argumentative article on what kind of media provides a positive perspective for children. Throughout the article, Jones uses his childhood to describe how it has influenced him to be more confident. Jones also conducted an experiment on a group of kids who have dealt with hardships in their childhood and helped them to express their negativity through fiction. To further his belief, Jones continued an encouraging and open-minded tone throughout his article. He willingly conducted research with the intention to help children and to demonstrate the rationalization behind his argument all while maintaining neutrality to his opinion.…

In “Kid’s Stuff” by Michael Chabon, the author is trying to explain to the audience how the writing of comics must be changed in order to appeal to modern day children. Originally, the goal of a comic book writer was to appeal to adults and to get readers to think of comics as a legitimate source of literature instead of something that kids read to pass the time. In the process of doing so, kids stopped reading comics as much. While some adults picked comics up, the sales numbers went down over time. When examining the question of how to make comics popular again, to the author, the answer lies in once again making comics for kids.…

She did not really say very much to me and I tried to help her with her shoes and her hair bow, but she seemed to be able to do it all on her own. Once the kids had finished their snack it was then time to go outside to play.…
