Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Working At The Beachouse

Decent Essays
In my current job at The Beachouse I was hired as a summer casual 2 years ago and was one of very few selected to stay on after the summer casual period ended. From my experience of working at The Beachouse I have had to deal with a diverse range of people and confrontation. Some being quite negative and I think that its in these moments that I am able to handle myself well and make good decisions. I consider myself good at talking to customers and having a positive attitude. I believe I am a good leader and have shown this through being a sports day captain in year 12 (last year) and also through being a netball coach this year. I am a fast learner so I am able to pick up skills quite fast and this helps me a lot when starting a new job.

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

Throughout a person life they will meet and work with countless of people. Working with others is almost like a trail and error process; sometimes that partnership works great, while other times the partnership stalls. The same can be said for a manager and their philosophy on how to run a business. I have been fortunate enough to work at multiple internships and jobs throughout my life and I give all of those experiences a lot of credit into molding me into the man I am today. However at each internship or job the environment I worked in was different.…

In the first few weeks of my father’s senior year in high school he was called into the principal’s office and he was told, “Mr. Bragdon, if you don’t start showing up for school I am going to expel you.” See at the time, dad’s single mother of four was struggling to pay the bills, which meant he needed to do whatever he could to supply the family with an additional income. So he went lobstering. In response to the principal, the very next day dad walked into his office and set down on his desk a stack of books and his check from that week. He then looked at the principal and said “Sir, I believe I just made more in one week than you will in the next two months.…

I remember the day before my first day at Pennoyer. I was sad and happy, scared, and mad all at the same time. I remember crying and yelling at my parents to not make me go to school that next day. The next day I showed up at school and remember walking into Mrs. Michael’s third grade class and seeing all of these new people that I would be friends with for years to come. At this school is where I made new friends, great memories, and where I grew up from a little kid into a young adult.…

During my time at Electric Boat, I was one of two lead engineers assigned to refurbish a damaged chilled water pump on a nuclear submarine. Neither the requisite spare part nor a new pump was available and the vendor had quoted approximately $500,000 and 6 months for the replacement part. When the Navy had determined that the repair was beyond their capability, the pump was shipped to us. We developed the concept of machining out a small teardrop shape from the damaged impeller and pressing in a machined sleeve to restore the piece to its original specifications.…

The idea of being told that I had to work for the first time made me want to eat glass; but could it possibly have turned out for the better? In England, when you reach 10th grade you participate in a nationally accepted program called 'Work Experience'. ' Work Experience' is when you work just like you would if you were legally an adult except with this program it only lasts a week. After 2 weeks of tireless searching I landed a job at Ariya Capital; an experienced developer and investor in clean energy and infrastructure projects throughout sub-Saharan Africa. It was actually much more advanced than any job I ever thought of getting.…

In second grade, my sister was in the national guard so we planned to see her for the graduation in Georgia. Just so we could be early and have more of an experience, we flew out to South Carolina about a week before the graduation, for vacation. To make the trip complete, my whole family came with so the drive to the airport was quite chaotic. When my family and I arrived at Myrtle Beach, we stayed in a hotel by the ocean. I was in awe of how it had been so placid there, for all of the people there were kind hearted and it smelled like ocean water through the entire city.…

The bar is quiet. I mean, not that it isn’t always quiet – what with us beingthe third dive bar on the one street, which is really just a mesh of Trost nightlife that spreads out five blocks in either direction, which makes the competition more than tough on a good day – but tonight is practically empty. We usually have a couple regulars who slump over the bar from sundown to sunrise, but today there are more stools empty than occupied. Maybe there’s a game on? But that wouldn’t explain why parking was still so difficult to find tonight.…

Its kind of hard to imagine a place pure and free of teenage issues and dramas. I never thought I would be able to escape my problems in the real world. I never thought I would be able to let go. But know as I sit on this rock, staring at the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen, feeling the wind blow my hair back, and smelling the wonderful scent of nature, I know I've escaped.
