The first class I was in was English taught by Mrs. Farlow. She was a young woman who modeled who I would like to be as a teacher. The first thing I noticed about her room was the flexible alternative seating for the children. Dominguez who taught AIG English. I thought since the class had AIG in the title they would be better behaved, and more accelerated in their learning. They were on the same topic as Mrs. Farlow, antonyms and synonyms, and seemed to be going at a slower rate. The whole class had a relaxed environment that made the time go by slower. Mrs. Dominguez had on classical music during small group time that made me want to take a nap. The small groups were different then in Farlow’s class with children not really working together just sitting near each other. Dominguez stayed seated and asked kids to come up to her when they had any questions. I noticed that whenever children came up to her she told them to figure it out she was busy. On the playground Mrs. Dominguez talked to me about all the business school she went to out of state because her husband was in the army. She told me wanted to be a lawyer but since that didn’t work out she became a teacher.
This experience really opened my eyes at all the diversity there is in public school, not only with the children but with the teachers as well. Farlow was hip and trendy teacher who gave respect to receive it, while Dominguez was a lawyer wash out who enjoyed classical music. Each class was relatively well behaved and succeeding academically even though they had dramatically different
