Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Moving To Canada

I have moved to a new land that Britain has named Upper Canada. After I had moved into Lower Canada, the government pushed my Tory peers and I out of the French occupied territory. This made the Loyalists furious, why should we, loyalists, be placed below the French, who lost the war, yet, the parliament treats them like the victors. In addition, the ride here was horrendous. It was crowded and dirty. I am disgruntled at the parliament for making us endure such conditions. I am sure that my experience was similar to the other 5,500 loyalists that came here in 1783. The land is scattered with trees, which they must cut down and use for firewood and building. There was nothing on the land. It wasn’t prepared at all! I can't say I was surprised, but I would think that after they kicked us out of our homes, they wouldn't make us build houses. But I was fortunate enough to get a plot of land on the river. There are fewer trees near the river, and I can use the river for resources. I have already built a bare-bones shelter, and I am grateful that the parliament decided to send tools for us to use and some resources to get us started. If they hadn’t, building this house might’ve taken a few months. I've managed to complete this shelter in 3 weeks, and I am now starting to add some furniture. I only have a table and a few chairs for me, my wife, and my kids. The conditions here, though not perfect, are better than on the boat. I see that the government is helping us, though not nearly enough. No one staying here is part of the government, though, all the government people here were just overseeing the lotteries and distributing land, they all lived somewhere
