Personal Narrative: My Experience At The RF Lewis Museum

Decent Essays
I had the pleasure of meeting you several years back in Baltimore while attending an event at the RF Lewis museum. I’m a big fan of you and your brother. It’s amazing to think of the many barriers you broke with TLC Beatrice.

Recently I penned an article for a Black Business Journal in Houston. The article highlighted the achievements of iconic African American entrepreneurs. In the article I featured your brother as I’m a big fan of his. I’ve attached the article for your viewing pleasure. Hopefully you like it and once again thanks for all that you and your brother did. It’s truly inspirational.

A Hurdle through Time George C. Wolfe wrote the play The Colored Museum, which was a mocking assessment of African American identity and culture as it gives a feeling of discomfort and a delight to the audience. The play consists of eleven series of exhibits redefining the ideas of what it means to be black in a modern America. The audience appears to be traveling through time and viewing the lives of African American from slavery through the civil war to the war of today that had been existing from the start, racism. The first scene “Git on Board” features Miss Pat, a much-hyped flight attendant on the Celebrity Slaveship who led the crew in the main cabin of what appears to be traveling in time on a slave ship.…

Last I visit Hotel Congress. I had never stop by and visit Hotel Congress inside before, even though I always pass by every day to go to college. The Hotel Congress was built in 1919 where tap rooms opens, and where it use to provide rooms to legendary bank robber John Dillinger, who was a famous American gangster. This hotel celebrates his capture each third weekend of the month of January with different entertainments. In 1934 of January 22, the hotel catches on fire causing, it started in the basement and made its way into the third floor, causing serious damages, which will later recover.…

For the museum project, I chose to go to the Folsom History Museum. The museum was small and colorful. When you walked in, you could see a large quilt with lots of color and patterns. The museum was mostly about how gold in california was discovered, how people dressed, and how people survived. It also led into prison, and punishments they had.…

When I visited George Washington my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew that your school is where I wanted to go for college. It just wasn't like any of the other colleges that I had seen before, and for that matter it was unlike any I have seen since. I saw that GW is in a beautiful location and that its presence in the capitol greatly enhances both its value and the city’s around it. I really liked walking around the campus, as it was extremely vibrant. I saw that safety is also important, and the combination of security that holds jurisdiction in this area is extremely reassuring.…

I agree with Bunch because learning about the past can change one’s perspective and change for the better. In my view, I would moved with the idea of displaying historical moments that changed America for the greater good. In addition, Bunch stated, “Here is a balanced history of America that allows us to cry and smile…” Some might object to the fact that people aren't ready to realize the truth about the past, of course on the grounds that, the historical backgrounds are what we observe to learn from them. Yet I would argue that history is an important subject because there has been many events that lead to where the government stands today.…

(173). He argues the dreadful experience suffered by African Americans’ family members and ancestors still troubles them until this day and is even more painful due to the fact blacks are still being treated differently by whites. The Frank Lloyd Wright’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is an example of organic architecture. In the book it says “ Its rounded form encloses a ramp that spirals around an empty center that is 90 feet wide. Certainly, the museum creates a striking visual image” (Lazzari 417). The Museum does look very awesome because of how it is spiral shaped and the color of the building is just white which is a plain color. The Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall looks much more exciting to look at because of how the building has a unique look and sweet stainless steel look.…

A week ago with my transition to Kean class I went on a visit to Liberty Hall Museum; this museum has been made a historical landmark of Union in hopes to continue to inspire and people to turn dreams into reality. Liberty Hall Museum has been the home to a very influential governor of New Jersey and later bought into the Kean family. When touring the museum the architecture immediately caught my attention. The beautiful hardwood floors were the first thing that I noticed as they squeaked louder with each step; continuing into the house the chandeliers in each room caught to light instantly and I was in awe. Today I would never imagine having a tea room, and separate sections where the children stayed and played away from their parents, and the kitchen kept at the bottom of the house.…

Growing up in Los Angeles, the Griffith Observatory has always been a staple of my childhood. I remember taking class trips and driving up the windy road of Mount Hollywood, where the hills would reveal the white glowing citadel, a symbol that embodies wonder and amazement. My most vivid memory was having the opportunity to look through the Zeiss Telescope and to see the planet Saturn, just barely being able to make out the rings. This moment was deeply rooted in my mind as I visited the observatory on January 16th of this year with my mother Jeannie. I realized that my most recent trip to the observatory would not only be a pleasant activity for the weekend, but would bare an underlying tinge of nostalgia as well.…

Last summer, about late July, my mother and I decided to go to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Jefferson must show the community he is strong and give them someone to look up to, but he can not succeed without Grant’s counsel. Grant’s harsh views on the African Americans in his community finally begin turning positive and optimistic after he sees Jefferson as a beacon of hope to the rest of the African American community, inspiring them to not stay complacent, but instead fight for a brighter future. Racial inequality still exits today, more than half a century later. The people in this world have never been more connected with one another, through technological advancements such as the internet, yet also never so disconnected with one another, choosing to ignore the overbearing problem of racism as long as it does not affect their own lives. We must fight for the rights of others.…

Today, we toured many of Liverpool’s museums. One of the most notable of these museums, of course, is the Beatles’ Museum—a museum filled with many artifacts from the Beatles’ career in music, even after they broke up. Noteworthy attractions are their first instruments, some of their last instruments, and copious amounts of John Lennon’s sunglasses. I would say that there is a certain point in the exhibit where you are guaranteed to find at least one pair of Lennon’s sunglasses in each and every room—he just had so many of them. I also visited the Tate Liverpool museum, which is a modern art museum.…
