Personal Narrative: My Experience At The Naval Academy

I strive to continuously hold myself to high standards and demand the best of myself and others. This is the greatest and most necessary quality of a leader. However, this trait is most effective only when supplemented by others. As a three-sport varsity athlete, I know that the success of a team is determined by the desire of each individual to sacrifice for others and tenaciously pursue greatness. Therefore, by attending the Naval Academy, I will be able to once again surround myself with others of the same mindset, vision and drive to improve and achieve leadership roles. The Naval Academies' exceptional and influential STEM programs formed an integral component of my initial interest. Academically, I have taken the most rigorous class …show more content…
They fuel my ambition to succeed and strive to be greater. During freshman year of high school, my family experienced the very harsh divorce of my parents. The emotions and confusion I felt at that time were overwhelming. Yet, rather than succumb to the disarray of my situation, I poured myself into my studies and sports. Confronted with such a life-altering event, I bore its weight and pressed on. I finished the year with a excellent academic statement, setting the tone for my strong high-school career. My efforts also rendered significant fruits outside the classroom; I trained my way from a non-athletic freshman to a starting varsity player on three teams. Wrestling proved to be most important as it functioned as a healthy outlet to stress and frustration and fully redefined my work ethic. Rather than turn to drugs and alcohol, I pursued an outlet that strengthened me physically and mentally. Constant effort has served as the solution to any obstacle I have faced. I realized this most distinctly through attending J Robinson's Intensive Wrestling Camp. The camp's purpose was to redefine each camper's sense of hard work and demolish any self imposed limits. This camp stands as the single most difficult experience I have endured. However, the mental strength and work ethic that I received from it have carried me farther than any other

Though I have not always been consciously aware of the four pillars of National Honor Society, the ideas behind them are what have undoubtedly shaped who I am today as well as who I want to be in the future. The first pillar, scholarship, is important because a commitment to learning is what has made me interested in engineering and innovation. Additionally, scholarship has driven me to seek a meaningful post-secondary education where I can advance my learning to help better society. Service, the second pillar, has been important to my development because it has taught me that giving is more fulfilling than receiving. Moreover, this pillar has motivated me to construct a goal of serving in the US Air Force.…

The National Honor Society is based on four pillars, which are, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. In some ways, I have already shown three of these pillars in my first two years of high school. However, there are several other ways in which I plan to lead my school, serve my community, and build my character, during my final years of high school. As I have mentioned, there are some ways that I have already shown leadership, service, and built my character during my first two years at Parkway South.…

I went into the state tournament not expecting to place, but had dreamed of placing at this tournament since I started wrestling. I lost my first match, then wrestled back and strung together two consecutive wins to place 8th. Although, I wasn’t a state champ, I accomplished one of my lifetime goals.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

Throughout the last few years I have had many experiences that have shaped me into someone and provided me with many traits that could allow me to become a great Marine. Yet, the three that stand out the most would be that I always persevere to get the job done, I always make sure I do what is right for my peers and not just for me, and I make sure that I help others to achieve the tasks at hand in the easiest way possible. First, I’d like to talk more about how I persevere to accomplish the tasks I am faced with that make me a great problem solver for the Marine Corps. I do this by pushing myself past my limits and past my breaking points and in doing so I make it farther than I normally thought wouldn’t be possible. Sometimes it may not seem like that but I try to show that by contributing to the unit. Yet another exponential area of growth I recognized internally was my performance in wrestling. During my first two years I found myself distracted by such little things and I would constantly criticize myself which held a looming sense of negativity which showed immensely in my performance. An epiphany sprouted through my conscious like a flower pressing itself through the jaded rocks and I couldn't be more grateful for this to happen at such a difficult time. For the first time in my wrestling career I had stepped out of my bubble and decided to try something I had never done before, which to say simply was Greco Roman wrestling. This decision came with a lot of regret leading up to the 2016 Wrestling National Championships because I had…
