Personal Narrative: My Experience At Sir John A Macdonald High School

When I first arrived at Sir John A MacDonald High in Grade 10, I applied to be a member of the school Student Council, because I was really passionate about being involved at school, and had many ideas to contribute. This must have shown in my application, as I ended up being selected. I really looked forward to participating in Council meetings and events with my fellow Grade Ten Reps, and was extremely excited to meet the rest of Student Council. I quickly learned though, that as a Grade Ten, we weren’t really there to contribute many ideas, but were supposed to just do the odd jobs as the older members on Council planned the tried and true events that had happened the year before. I was satisfied with this at the time, and understood that this was a Grade Ten Rep’s role on Council. …show more content…
I was now an experienced Student Council member, and was known to be very active with other school clubs and teams. There were high expectations put on me by the Co-Presidents and other Grade Twelves to organize activities completely on my own. This was a sharp contrast to my previous year of experience on Council when I had little responsibility. Nevertheless, I accepted my role as it was given to me, and did the best I could to organize events. It was difficult, and I was not able to put my own ideas to action the way I wanted to, because I was expected to work rather independently, with little support. This led me to organize the same various intramurals sports tournaments and spirit weeks that had happened in past years and were always moderately
