I have always been independent, but I fully seeked independence when I was 16 years old. This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. The first step to my seeking of independence was turning 16 years old and getting my driver’s license. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

Dear, Point Pleasant Beach High School I would like to thank Beach's program for touring me around the school during the open house and Dr. Grosshandler for taking the time out of his day to discuss my possible future with Point Pleasant Beach and its amazing academic program. Beach has gained a reputation of producing intelligent students and sending them off to college. Being considered for a program with such a productive system brings a monumental amount of joy to me and my family. Over the course of this school year, I have begun to realize the difference between my old school, Point Pleasant Boro, and my new school, Spring Lake Heights. Heights has a smaller population which benefits the students for multiple reasons.…

Now, as a student I work in Admissions as a Southern Ambassador. While giving tours, I have noticed what a small and great community Florida Southern is; current students wave at us on a tour showing how friendly our campus is, professors smile at us showing their excitement in seeing potential new students. Whether you are involved in greek life or you are a member of other organizations and clubs, you can always leave your mark on campus.…

For all of my life, building close relationships has been the key to my success. I form relationships successfully in a small, comfortable setting. In school, classrooms are an accessible way for myself to accomplish this with my teacher. For every teacher I was close to, the class I had with them was my top class. One of the main reasons I chose Clarkson College was because I admired it was a private college with a limited student to teacher ratio.…

Today, June 18th, 2017, marks the last day of my first week of college at Paul Quinn College and I am proud to say, “I survived”. Committing to Paul Quinn was a really big decision for me because this school is a 17 hour drive away from my home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I was afraid that I might get homesick or that I would not have the support of my family because I would be so far away from home. Soon, after visiting the Dallas campus, I realized that Paul Quinn was the school for me. This is the school where I will grow as an individual and I have come to that realization in my first week of college through the many conversations with upperclassmen, faculty, alumni and summer bridge students.…

I have visited all over the country, lived in every region possible, but there really is no place like home. If someone were to ask me where I wanted to attend college at this point last year, the only thing that came to mind was the word “south”. I wanted nothing more than to move to a warm place where I could explore the southern region. However, things changed and I decided to move to Connecticut. I hate to say that moving here and attending Sacred Heart University was a mistake, because it was not.…

As I commence my fourth semester as a proud Rutgers University student and employee, I reflect on the friends that have become family along this journey and this great institution that has become my second home. I wasn’t always cheerful and optimistic when a new semester was approaching. Doubt and fear enticed me at the start of every semester in my first year. As a result of being persuaded into a major and career field I wasn’t interested by my strict immigrant parents who wanted the best for their son, my attentiveness and interest in class was often absent. I wasted most of my first year skipping classes, hanging out with friends and partying my weekends away instead of doing school work.…

Every autumn, when the leaves begin to turn, I know that Penn Homecoming is right around the corner. Ever since I was six years old, I have participated in the numerous traditions that surround Penn’s Homecoming Weekend. I have thrown toast onto Franklin Field, the oldest football stadium in the country, long before I understood why I was doing it; had a red and blue “P” painted on my cheek; and went to the bookstore to buy a year’s worth of logo wear. I was always intrigued by my grandfather’s incredible love for the school, and how he seemed to recapture his youth when he returned to Penn. As a senior navigating the application process, it has become clear to me how dynamic an environment Penn is.…

USC Journal 1: NCBI Reflection I found the NCBI workshop to be a great way to gain insight into the lives of other members of the Summer START program, much of which happened on a level that may never have been reached otherwise. Many of the people who presented their opinions or stories also conveyed their passion, or even anger, over the struggle they faced and how they wanted to improve others reactions or thoughts towards that element of their personality. The leaders for my workshop started off with a program called Up-Down, where individuals stood up when the instructor called out a certain minority group, such as Jewish, lower economic resources, Christian, African-American, etc.…

In the year in 1991, Beloit College started the First-Year Initiatives (FYI) Seminars with the end goal to provide the incoming first year students to learn how to be students of the liberal arts education and also how to be a successful student at Beloit. It was created with the interest that it could educate the new students on how to use the campus to their advantage such as: using the two museum on campus to learn more about the rich history of many different cultures, using the tutors at the Writing Center or learning more about class materials from the teacher’s aide (TA), and even to learning about studying abroad through the Office of International Education (OIE). My professor basically called me a "big dummy" for not knowing the importance of this information and told me I needed to figure out my college plan. Unbeknownst to me, I opened the doors to a second chance after high school due to the success in my previous classes. I immediately heeded Mrs. Grant 's advice when she directed me to Rochelle Zook, Angela Brown, and Kathy Patterson: U-Link Director, Honors Counselor, and Honors Transfer Director respectively.…
