Personal Narrative: My Experience At Norview

Improved Essays
During my time at Norview, I have discovered a bunch of unique and interesting skills that I can benefit in my future career. The skill that I first learned was on the very first day going to Norview, the class and I were taught how to feed the residents properly due to their individual medical status. Later on that day we practiced how to properly feed someone, it was a little weird, but funny because we were feeding each other. The very last part we did before we left to go back to school was my class and I tried thickened juice that tasted really good and looked like Jell-O, we also tried thickened water, because of it looking like hand sanitizer I couldn’t drink it. My most favorite skill that I learned was the different type of lifts and how to use them, there were 2 lifts that were shown, the sit to stand lift and the manual patient lift. The sit to stand lift not only uses a machine to help the resident stand and sit, but the resident also helps, this benefits them physiologically and …show more content…
The days I spent at Norview was like home, and everyone has been so nice and welcoming to my class and to myself. I really liked being at Norview because it was an experience that I could learn from and understand things that I’ve never understood before. When I first got to the placement I didn’t talk much and I was really shy while feeding the residences, as the weeks passed, I became less shy and started getting out of my shell. This placement has been a big confidence boost for me, and I’d be so glad to come back. The few things that I disliked was that each student was put into a group and put into an area in the home, I didn’t like the fact that we stayed in the same area for the whole week we have been there for, with the same people all the time. I advise next time to swap to different areas of the house to further experience all aspects and

I have always been independent, but I fully seeked independence when I was 16 years old. This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. The first step to my seeking of independence was turning 16 years old and getting my driver’s license. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

Another reason why this was also beneficial was because I also learned how to add flavoring to certain medications to assist patients with taking them. In addition, I was also able to take down prescriptions over the phone from incoming doctor’s offices and for one office in particular I was able to calculate the patient compliance rate for one of the nurses. All of the tasks that I completed each showed me how valuable some of the information we use in each class can be applied together to dispense one…

My primary thoughts towards Gordon College were created during a prospective student day. It turned out to be a negative experience that created a pessimistic view of this school and carried on my cynical view of Christians. It’s important because had I continued with my previous bias I would have attended a secular college which may have been a positive experience but would have definitely lead to a drastically different life.…

As the semester comes to a conclusion, so far I have been very satisfied with my performance thus far here at Slippery Rock University. Being in college has really given me the opportunity to meet so many new people that have been able to positively impact in such a big way. When I interviewed with Mount Holyoke College, the Associate Director of the Frances Perkins Scholar program, Nichole Reynolds, shared with me, “Attending this school can be a transformative experience if you allow it to be.” The words that she spoke were the guiding force behind the ways in which I approached my junior year. The 2016-2017 school year has been the most transformative year of my academic life thus far. Indeed, I stepped out of my cocoon and forced myself to stretch; no matter how uncomfortable or the amount of fear that I felt, I pushed towards new experiences that helped to construct the person I was becoming. First, after much consideration, I officially declared my self-design major in Black Geographies with the support of my academic advising team.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

As a running start student I could talk about how my experience at community college helped prepare me to transfer to a four year university, but the lessons I learned there were primarily limited to academics. Sure, I learned how to be successful in a college class room, that online classes don’t fit my learning style, and going to Hong Kong for two weeks in the middle of the quarter will significantly lower a GPA. (I eventually retook the classes from that quarter.)…

In psychology, every student learns about the mere-exposure effect; a psychological phenomenon by which people tend to develop a preference for things because they are familiar to them. For myself, Dickinson College is right in my backyard and has always been in my thoughts. As I developed my interest in Dickinson during my early years of high school, I decided that I wanted to be involved in Dickinson life as much as possible. At that time, I would sign up for two college visits that provided great knowledge about the campus and all Dickinson has to offer. Once I saw the campus I decided to partake in a day visit where I would acquire a feel for the classes in the archaeology department.…
