Personal Narrative: My Experience At Kutztown University

Ever since I set foot on the campus of Kutztown University as a high school freshman, I made it my goal to become a Golden Bear. I was excited to begin my college career during the Summer Academy and thought that I knew everything about myself. Little did I know that many obstacles would be placed before me and challenge me in ways that I did not think were possible. There were man days that I felt like quitting college. It was not at all what I expected. In some ways it feels like the semester has lasted forever, and yet lucky for me, it also feels like the semester has flown by. I have learned many things about myself and I have grown and matured though the process. The thing that taught me the most about myself and caused me the most stress in my first semester of college was my dorm experience. Having chosen my first roommate during Connections, I thought that I was going to have a great semester. My roommate convinced me that he wanted the same things that I did. We agreed to no …show more content…
Two specific, news-worthy events have changed history and affected me. For the first time in Pennsylvania, the APSCUF chose to strike over contract disputes with the PASSHE. At the same time, America was witnessing the upcoming Presidential election and shocking win of Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. Both of these events caused me to evaluate my own thoughts and feelings and make my own opinion about each event. I am no longer expected to follow my parents, teachers, friends, or peers in their ideas but am now able to express myself as a mature adult and independent thinker. I took it upon myself to attend all classes during the strike even when most were cancelled. I also stayed informed during the election process by watching debates and reading news reports. I feel I have learned a lot about these processes and will have stories to tell about each of them to future grand-

For all of my life, building close relationships has been the key to my success. I form relationships successfully in a small, comfortable setting. In school, classrooms are an accessible way for myself to accomplish this with my teacher. For every teacher I was close to, the class I had with them was my top class. One of the main reasons I chose Clarkson College was because I admired it was a private college with a limited student to teacher ratio.…

As the semester comes to a conclusion, so far I have been very satisfied with my performance thus far here at Slippery Rock University. Being in college has really given me the opportunity to meet so many new people that have been able to positively impact in such a big way. May it be through helping me study for exams or just a great group of friends that I can go hang out with. Don’t get me wrong there most definitely has been some rocky moments here and there but I feel that I really pushed through those moments and have made the best out of them.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

I have gone to the same school all my life with less than 200 kids in my class. A lot of my peers I have known since kindergarten or even preschool. My life is very routine. I go the same route to school everyday, talk to the same couple of friends, and then go to dinner rotating between the same four or five restaurants. I had an amazing childhood and I love my family and friends, I am ready for an experience that only NYU can offer.…

A life at IU Bloomington will consist of long and arduous nights of studying and learning. Luckily, I happen to be someone who finds pleasure in a busy lifestyle. At IU Bloomington, I plan on studying within the College of Arts and Sciences in the two academic subjects that entertain and challenge me the most: chemistry and politics. Once bored out of my mind in a simplistic and dull regular chemistry course, I now find myself in the midst of AP Chemistry. Originally petrified by taking on Lake Central’s toughest class, I continue to endure, and currently sit happily with a B+ while some of my peers suffer.…

My first year of high school was winding down, teachers had covered all learning material, and most students were preparing for finals. June had just begun, and along with studying, I had an upcoming saxophone recital for which I had been preparing since April. The Tuesday before my recital, I had my second to last lesson with my teacher, Fred Scerbo, before the recital on Sunday. I was preparing a piece by Charlie Parker named "Anthropology". Despite its difficulty, I felt that I would be able to perform it well.…

My experience at Trinity High School has been extraordinary so far. Although I am just a freshman, I think that Trinity has been a great environment to help me build up my confidence both inside and outside the classroom. I believe that my confidence is an important aspect of demonstrating my “girl power” at Trinity. Before this year, I was always the shy girl who did not like presentations or talking in class. However, after meeting new friends and learning to accept myself, I have grown out of my comfort zone.…

In my junior year, I had the opportunity to visit Syracuse University for an information session and campus tour. Even though it was extremely cold that day, I immediately sensed the effervescent college community when I stepped onto the campus. Heading to Crouse-Hinds Hall, the venue of the information session, I admired the architecture of the Hall of Languages and noticed people from different cultures entering and exiting the building enjoying their day, heading towards Varsity Pizza, the Syracuse Bookstore, or class. It made me think about how great of a learning experience it will be hearing all of their ideas and perspectives coming from all over the world.…

High school is coming to an end, and students need to start looking for colleges to acquire a further education. I discovered Waynesburg University during a field trip to Pittsburgh where a college convention was being held. Since I am interested in the law enforcement field, my friend suggested that I should check out Waynesburg University’s station. As I had a conversation with someone from the university, I found that Waynesburg has a really good criminal justice class. This prompted me to go to one of their campus tours.…
