Personal Narrative: My Experience At Kennedy Catholic High School

1. Every morning when I step through the front doors of Kennedy Catholic High School, I am greeted with a smile, whether it be from a friend passing by or a staff member standing in the hallway. A welcoming gesture, even as simple as a “Good morning,” always reassures me that I am appreciated in my school community. Throughout my two years attending Kennedy Catholic, I learned the importance of solidarity and having a supportive community. My teachers have helped me countless times with my academic pursuits and have encouraged me to continue challenging myself with advanced classes. Even so, I believe the most important aspect of attending Kennedy is the Lancer Family.
I originally found the term “Lancer Family” rather overused and

I remember as a seventh grader, I was intrigued with a particular coding website called scratch.mit.edu. On this website, I would experiment with animation and make simple games in my free time. After familiarizing myself with the basics of coding and digital drawing, I soon began to develop a strong interest in computer science and graphic design. I plan to pursue my interest in STEM by attending the University of Washington and majoring in Human Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE). I chose this major because it utilizes both engineering and creative approaches to improve how humans use technology in society. It allows me to apply both my interest in art and engineering in the field of technology instead of having me pick one over the other. I plan on pursuing a Master’s of Science in HCDE and eventually working in a Washington based company such as Amazon or Microsoft.
Aside from my academic goals, I want to continue my passion in music and join the University of Washington’s Marching Band. I also aspire to become a youth group leader for the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society. As a youth group leader, I will be able to teach the younger generation about leadership skills, their faith, and their Vietnamese heritage. I am inspired by my current youth group leaders and I too want to impact the lives of the future youth in my

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

I had kept in touch with many friends from both middle schools and have met many new friends who have shaped my experience. After the first week, I met many lovely girls whom I continue to get closer and closer with.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

They identify as domestic or international, male, female or non-gendered, heterosexual or LGBTQ+, religious or without religion, able or disabled, as one race or of many, and share one goal: to eat one last feast as one large community. I had the wonderful privilege of working for these students. Attending this special occasion with them gave me a picture of the impact a university setting has on a student population. In this single moment, at the end of my first full year as a resident assistant, I knew the path to becoming a professional in higher education was for me.…

Graduating from a Jesuit high school and university has instilled in me the will to do what I, and most people, consider to be fair, honest, and morally right. Both institutions not only provided an exemplary education but supported me as I grew into the man I am today. Through the Jesuit education I inherited the moral philosophy of being a man with and for others. Keeping this goal in mind I participated in a multitude of retreats which shook me to my core and allowed me to realize how precious the bonds we create with family and friends are. I desired to broaden my view of the world during my freshman year at Saint Joe 's. Despite my nervousness, I decided to take an English class which incorporated service.…
