The most memorable day for me was the day when I came to Job Corps for the first time. There was an insane amount of highlights all that day. Besides the new facility, there were a lot of new people and new rules that I was required to follow. It was the change of scenery, temperature, and lifestyle that I found quite difficult to adjust to. The changes that I have made from that day up until now still amaze me.
As soon as I found myself at the campus, I was astonished by all different people, cultures and languages. There were a lot of foreign students too. I wasn’t accustomed to seeing a lot of Hispanics, Native Americans, or people from foreign countries. After observing the way the students from different cultures interacted with each other,

Part 1: College is a great place to meet new people of all different cultures. In fact, one experience I had with an individual of another culture took place at college. During my freshman year at Towson University, I enrolled in a Biology lecture with over 150 students and I happened to sit next to, Bella, a girl who was from Italy. As the semester went on, I got to know her better and learned that she was studying abroad for a semester. Even though she spoke English fluently, she had a very strong accent and I later learned that her native language was Italian.…

    - I am in a Dean List every semester since I enrolled at Kellogg Community College. - I serve Youth Treasurer in our Church, and I have learned many things from that experience including the value of teamwork and time management. I have done my fall internship at the same school but during the day. I feel that there is a lot I can do to support the students both academically and emotionally. During the first meeting with the counselor she expressed that being bilingual and bi-cultural will help. I know that there are not many opportunities to talk or have sessions with students, since they don’t have elective classes where I can see them, but I will try my best to be flexible with their schedules. I found out that they have a student government association, so I will try to be involved in their activities,…

I have always been interested in learning and using new ideas. Throughout my life, I have invariably drawn from my life experiences, newly learned ideas and my continuing education to help problem-solve sensibly and realistically allowing me to move forward or help others reach their goals. Although I have no formal teaching experience, in my past work and involvement in organized sports, I have repeatedly used the Progressive philosophy. When dealing with 13 & 14 year olds many situations arise such as bullying, personality clashes or simply not understanding a drill or play. I deal with these situations by asking questions to stimulate a discussion, allowing them to draw on past experiences; positive or negative, consequently allowing them to come up with a solution or grasp the knowledge they are seeking.…

Before the fourth grade, the thought of practicing my nonexistent Polish when my grandmother called our landline caused me to dash out the room. I was raised in America, and partaking in my Polish culture was simply a way to ease my parent’s nostalgia for their “Polska.” After moving there for a year, I learned new traditions and developed intimate connections with my family. I finally considered myself a Polish-American.…

I'm going to write about my experience at job corps so far. The first day I came to Job Corps was really different. It was nothing what I expected ,I thought it was going to be something like Zoey 101 with lots of freedom and respect from students and staff but its nothing like that. There's not really any freedom here for minors which I dislike. My Grandparents came in to drop me and my sister off and sign some papers.…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them. The workplace was always very clean, which also created a nice environment around me to focus on my work. That’s really a good thing because a nice working environment keeps me safe, healthy, and gives me more energy to do my work.…

In the first few months, students experience many culture shocks, but eventually, students get used to it. However, we do feel different and uncomfortable living in different countries. Sometimes students are discriminated because of our races and ethnic groups. The aspect is, we tend to be with people who have the same culture or similar which substantially undermines the purpose of studying abroad. If international students have some problems or questions, students often ask people who can speak the same language or share similar feelings and customs.…
