Summarize the event you attended and explain why you chose to attend this event. (When and where did it take place? What happened? Who did you go with or talk to at the event?)
On the second week of school, I attended the Honors Ice Cream Social outside of Honors Hall on August 29th. I went to the even with Maddie Weninger, a friend from high school, and we both filled out the get-to-know-you bingo sheets. We would literally go up to anyone in front of us and asked them if they could fill anything out on our sheets. As we were talking to people to fill out our papers, we would at least ask people where they were from and what they were going to major in. There turned out to be a lot of people we knew from around our hometown that are going

Since I will be spending a lot of time in my honors classes with a majority of the students at this social, I might as well get to know them. I didn’t set up any boundaries and included everyone. I talked to everyone and didn’t exclude anyone based on how they dressed or how they looked. This social was meant to expand my connections with students in my Honors community. At this event, I met a few friends I still talk to outside of class, so it gave me a foundation to start exploring my Honors experience. How might you continue to be involved within the Honors College? How have you/might you continue to be involved more broadly on campus?
I will continue to be involved in Honors College by attending events put on by Honors. I plan to attend more than just three of the common read events and participate in as many as I can. Also, I want to be present during the first few meetings to see what Honors College is all about and what it has to offer. Additionally, I like to be involved in service projects, and some of the ones that Honors has to offer actually sound interesting to me. Some of the events in Honors College actually sound interesting and fun compared to some of the other activities on campus, so I plan to be active by participating in as many events as I possibly

It was fun talking to other science majors, and I even met another person named Olivia! I never presented my juggling in front of other people that I didn’t really know before, so that was different, but fun. I didn’t feel too awkward juggling in front of others, though, due to the fact that I have grown accustomed to presenting my schoolwork to my classmates over the years. In addition, I was able to meet several members of the Biology Department. Even though I’m not taking biology currently, nor in the near future, it could still be beneficial to me to know the professors in this department, considering the fact that I may have them when I’m a little older.…

When first applying to my school’s chapter of the National Honor Society I thought little of it. It was a club that everyone applies to, and something my friends urged me to join. I was unsure if I even wanted to apply until the week before the deadline. Although stressful, I worked hard and was able to fill in the application, and turn in something I was proud of. After turning it in…

The event I attended was Spirit Day at Poinciana campus on October 19th from twelve to two pm. That being said, I chose this event for the reason that I felt this occasion represents the identity and community shared by all the members of our institution. Not only that, but student involvement is important when representing your school and when improving your school environment. Thus, going to such event may have a significant impact on my college experience. This type of occurrence has the effect of making students feel more united, and unity only makes us stronger as individuals, which is why attending was important.…

After another week of being tormented with exaggerated apologies by my peers for my rejection, I was officially accepted. Being denied helped me realize my true potentials and made me desire to strive to be my utmost best. I was running against some of the same friends that initially pitied my denial, producing the initial loss to influence me to become a natural helper that desires to help everyone. As President, I became the role model for most students at my school – rising from a loss and returning triumphant as an affable young…

I feel honored to be considered for membership in Blacksburg High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society not only because of the immense personal growth that would result of my participation with the National Honor Society, but also of the impact I could make in the community alongside other NHS members. I feel that although I can make an impact in the community alone, my involvement would make an even greater impact in the world if I were to work together with other members of the prestigious organization. I think I would excel and make a difference in the world together with other students who are models of character, leadership, scholarship, and community service. In September of 2015, I took a class that I never imagined myself taking; teen leadership. A speech class, taught by my band director and involved a lot of socializing with others, creativity, and on the spot thinking. These things- I was not the greatest at. Unfortunately, reality later dawned on me, and I realized that to become- and be great at being- a physical therapist, I would have to be more social, more approachable by others.…

The event that I attended on campus was a sexual education course presented by Farren Lobdell, the health educator and wellness coordinator on campus. I went to this event because my roommate needed to attend an event on campus to write a similar paper for her FYEP class as well. I had some idea of what we would be talking about, hence the name of the course but wasn’t exactly sure. I learned many things from the course and it was very educational.…
