Personal Narrative: My Experience At Desmet Jesuit High School

Improved Essays
Throughout my four years at DeSmet Jesuit High School, I have tried to become as involved in school activities as the student leaders I met on my very first days. These same students constantly led events both in and out of school. I was particularly impressed by the compañeros or the seniors in my freshman homeroom. From the first moment I met them, I decided to become as actively involved and well respected in our community as one of them. Now as my experience at DeSmet will soon come to an end, I believe that I have achieved that goal. From the beginning of my freshman year, I pushed my awkward and shy fourteen year old self to join the photography club, Super Smash Brothers club, the robotics club, and the Spanish club. I made so many friends from these clubs, and quickly I went from being a socially anxious and shy kid …show more content…
Eventually, time management and other interests caused me to drop some of these clubs, but I remained loyal to our Super Smash Brothers club and Spanish club. These other interests caused my friends and I to create our own clubs, namely, film club and Chinese club. Due to its popularity, film club required that I be an active participant continually working to promote it. However, starting the Chinese club required a great deal of work and perseverance to increase its popularity and strength. Our success with this club has led to involving it in our school’s annual Culture fest. We will display Chinese heritage and language to help educate others about this rich and fascinating culture. Our creation of this club happened during my junior year which is when I was inducted into DeSmet’s National Honor Society. This society is largely based upon using our strengths in education. Those who are admitted are in the top ranks of our

The week of August 24th was Club Rush week. The entire week I and anyone else interested in the prospective clubs gathered around all the booths and looked into our options. Surprisingly, most clubs seemed less an investment in hobbies and fun, and more invested in humanitarian organizations. Red Cross, UNICEF, Tree Huggers Club, and one specifically focused on helping our local youth. This seemed to be a nice reflection of all the kindness the students at Chino Hills had to offer.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…
