I had signed up for this camp 3 months before it had actually started. As the days began to loom closer, I became more and more unsure about it. The camp was a 5 day basketball and leadership camp in Greeley, CO, and it was the first time I had ever been I had ever stayed overnight for a camp of any kind by myself. The camp was going to be with new people I had never met and who came from all sorts of different places. Coming from a small community, the idea of leaving and having to fend for myself scared me beyond belief. As my mom and I headed up to the University of Northern Colorado, she kept asking me if I was nervous and I of course answered with a no. Inside, I was getting extremely nervous but I wasn’t going to show or admit it. As …show more content…

The instructor of the camp began his lecture and he asked us to talk with the people around us and get to know them. This surprised me, as I hadn’t been to an athletic camp which emphasised talking like this. The more I began to talk with the two girls beside me, I realized that they were all in the same situation as me. They didn’t know anybody and were just as nervous. Throughout the course of the day, I began meeting more and more people as this was stressed by the instructor. When the day was finally over, I realized that everyone was in the same situation as me. By the end of the 5 days, I had met around 60 of the fellow campers and had gotten to know 30 of them pretty well. Over those 5 days, I had been taught many things such as getting out of one's comfort zone, how to be comfortable meeting new people, that there is no reason to give less than your best effort in anything, and it taught me not to let anyone get in the way of your goals, dreams, or

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to go to a residential summer camp - however, I was never able to attend one. Despite this, I’ve had a little over a decade to consider everything there is to consider! My eldest sister attended Camp Cheerio one year, and I interrogated her immediately upon her return - from what she described, I and the rest of my family thought I would do very well at a residential camp! Of course I can’t know for certain how I’d react, but looking at experiences away from my family has helped me form an idea. A year or so back, I spent a week in Disney World with a family I didn’t know very well at all.…
