* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I was stoked knowing that I was healthy for once and I would be able to compete at my gymnastics state meet. In my previous years of competing gymnastics, I have had hip, knee, and ankle injuries, making practice and competition difficult. At this specific state gymnastics meet, I was not going to have any pain. It was my moment to shine bright and show everyone that I was strong and could overcome injuries. My first event was the uneven bars. Warm ups were not going as well as I would have liked them to go. My timing was off and I started to get panicky.
Coach Gene came over to me and said, “Shania, do not let your mind get in the way of your ability. You can do this and you can make this routine outstanding.” I took the words my coach said to me and …show more content…
I was on floor warming up for an intense workout. The goal was to accomplish three outstanding routines back to back. Two of my other level ten teammates went first and then it was my turn. I took a step into the corner of the floor, took a deep breath, and started to run. I did my round-off, then a back handspring, and then my one and half back twisting flip. My body was sky high. It felt like I was floating through the air like never before. Next thing you know, I landed on the outside of my ankles. Within seconds, I was laying on the floor, screaming, in agony and pain. My coaches, Gene and Alisha, both rushed over and tried to calm me down. Many emotions overcame me. Shock of what just happened, extreme pain and throbbing in my ankles and a broken heart as I knew this injury could take me out of the sport that I love. After a while, my mother came to get me. She was a wreck and tremendously sad. Knowing that I had trained so hard to get back to the level I had regained, it broke her
