Personal Narrative: My Experience At A Community College

When I never thought that I would spend my first two years of college at a community college. I applied to the universities I had in mind during my final year in high school and got accepted into all of them. Unfortunately, the cost was too much to go to any of the colleges, and the scholarship money was barely enough to pay for an entire year. The Honors College Fellows Scholarship was awarded to me, and the Honors College at Lone Star College-North Harris would cover the cost of my first two years of college. It was an Honors College at this community college, and a lot of what I have learned and gained is thanks to this program. The Honors College has enabled me to create research projects and network with new people. With each Honors class taken, I have developed the skills of creating projects and doing research. Through the honors college I have made friends that I can rely on and share interests. Every person is different, but there were genuine people in the Honors College that wanted to conduct research and improve academically. I shared that same motivation and was nice to find people who shared that drive. Since joining this program, I have also become active in other organizations. Through these organizations I have meet very important people such as our college president and many faculties that run the college. Through these conversations and interactions, I have learned to compose myself much more professionally and to represent the organizations I belong to. When planning to go to college, I have always had in mind to be hidden from many social interactions, but the Honors Colleges advocated to cooperate with your peers. Talking and helping out my peers lead to the development of many social skills and appreciate the people around
