Personal Narrative: My Experience As An Officer

I have loved being an officer this year, yes it can be difficult at times, but it is all worth it. The biggest thing that impacted me this year was GivingHoPe. At first it was very hard to find a person that would need help, although many people need it, they aren't willing to admit it. With time we found a family in need. When I contacted the mother of the family, I could tell she was so relieved someone was able to help her make this Christmas special for her girls. I was telling another officer all of her information to write it down and I saw their eyes widen when I told her what they wanted. She wanted a computer. I was in a panic because I did not think we had enough funds to buy a computer. We also had another project during that month, so it would be very difficult to complete both. I immediately asked if there were alternative gifts she think her family would enjoy. She gave us her daughter's clothes and shoe sizes. She continued to talk about her need for a computer. During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

My neighbors were the most ignorant gun toting Americans I’ve ever known.…

ding. If I were in this situation as the parole officer I would do my best to try and help to mother, in whichever way possible. I know this would go against my beliefs and rules that I must follow as a parole officer but I still think I would try my hardest to help this mother get back on her feet and be able to provide for her children. I think many people would jump the gun and file a violation report on this specific issue, as she is violating her probation, but I don’t feel that would be the best way to approach this situation.…

Our main point of contact was in Texas for the entire month of June, this made communication difficult and occasionally we were waiting till the last second to receive our monthly schedules. There were also some deputies who did not know how the internship program worked so we were occasionally given tasks we were not suppose to complete. For example, one of the deputies saved all of her phone consults from the day and then gave them to me to enter in ten minutes before I was suppose to leave. I had to explain to her that I would have put her phone consults in the database if she had given them to me sooner but since she waited till the end of the day she would need to put them…
