Unit one was interesting for me since I had never known about many of the skills we learned about before. Learning how to read like a writer was especially frustrating for me. I usually never care about the way an essay is written; I mostly only pay attention to the message. As we were learning how to read like writers, I found myself getting thinking that the whole concept seemed pedantic. I thought if a writer has written an essay, shouldn't we spend time dissecting that message and debating it instead of worrying about word choice and transitions? Through doing the various readings, I’ve come to see that when writers don’t pay attention to the details, sometimes their message either gets lost or doesn’t seem as impactful as it could have

The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. When I was a child I always though about business. I wanted to know how things worked, how money worked. I started watching my grandfather write his invoices, deposit checks, talk to people as if he knew them but they had just met. I wondered how he did it, how he played his cards right and got people to hire him.…

For most students, the moment the bell rings for summer, they never speak to their teachers again. Usually this applies to me as well, but last year, it didn't. Ms. Dirmeyer, my 7th grade Language Arts teacher, still keeps in touch with me, even though she’s not my teacher anymore. She takes interest in my writing, and has done several things to help me improve. Ms. Dirmeyer sends me emails with writing tips, along with worksheets directed towards improving my writing.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I’d frequently been caught reading books in the zaniest of places. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper. Every once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I could understand what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I’d held onto like a mother to her child.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…

I believe my greatest success is how much I have improved as a writer over the past few weeks. I have developed new habits by paying more attention to my grammar, spelling, and punctuation in my everyday tasks for this class and at work. This is the first class I have ever taken with discussion boards and they have proved to be my biggest challenge. Several times I worked hard and submitted my essay with confidence, only to realize that I had completed something incorrectly once I read the other posts.…

Growing up, I always loved to write. From short stories about damsels in distress as a child to controversial articles for my high school newspaper, expressing myself through the written word constantly motivated me to become my best self. I enjoyed entertaining and informing others from the minute I learned how to form sentences, and though my content was not Pulitzer Prize worthy, it was enough to put a smile on the faces around me, including my own. The interesting part with this however, wasn’t that I loved to write, but why.…

My experience in writing is mostly journaling, I write short stories, poetry and have participated in writing classes. I graduated in 2011 with my MS in Adult Education, these past few weeks are a reminder of the involvement necessary for an online course, along with the writing of papers. However, this academic writing experience has already given me pause for learning new ways to do things, researching, the concepts of academic tone, ensuring proper APA formatting, which I have confidence(shaken); but staring at a blank screen attempting to write these different paper assignments is taking more time than I am expected, based on my previous courses. The thought process is generating in many directions at this time. Normally, I am a detailed…

Since I was around the age of five, I have told everyone who has asked that I wanted to be an author when I grew up. It was never a question of if I became an author, but rather when. I began writing poems in second grade and have been writing ever since. Writing became my therapy. I would sit and write for hours, writing stories about everything from dragons and mythology to modern day tales of hope and courage.…
