Highlights and accomplishments of Kanawha County’s 4-H program include:
• 4,797 youth and adults attended an education program by the Kanawha County 4-H program in 2016.
• 210 Kanawha County youth participated in summer camping programs including Kanawha county day and residential camps, and state camps.

Selected adult volunteers complete the vetting process, including job descriptions and the new county online training. From the results of the online training and camper survey results from the following year, the final training occurring the day of camp reinforces the policies and information identified as poorly understood by the counselors based on the online quiz results and goes over the program, risk management, and job duties.
Each year camp is designed so that youth have the opportunity for leadership, responsibility, and caring for others. Camp theme, schedule, and programming are selected by the teen leaders in the beginning stages of camp planning. From there, these teen leaders work with the camp volunteers to determine the best methods to integrate the camp thematic program with tenets of WVU camping practices. Teen leaders are also selected to be camp counselors as younger residential and day camps. The teens complete camp counselor training—both online, day of training and an additional training workshop a month prior to camp. WVU Extension is an arm of West Virginia University that focuses on serving the citizens of West Virginia. The citizens are best served by a coordinated effort of organization, which focus our energies toward obtainable positive results for the youth of our state. Several of partnerships include, serving as a member of the West Virginia Statewide Afterschool Network (WVSAN), serving as co-vice chair on the Kanawha County Health Science Technology Academy Board, and partnering with many county afterschool programs and schools to provide quality 4-H hands-on education to youth in this county. A specific example of the WVSAN partnership, is the Lights On for Afterschool broadcast that was provided on the “WVU Extension Working for You” Program sponsored by the WV Library Network. This program, which was a resulting partnership between WVSAN, WVUES, and the WV Library Network, was sent out to broadcast media and libraries across the state to highlight the need for as well as the accomplishments of after-schools in West
