When I was in elementary and middle school I didn't really have a subject preference. I was just okay at every subject and I couldn't find myself interested in anything particular. After a certain point in my life though, I have always had a preference for English, a preference that I didn't act on until recently.…

Like most people who share the state of conciousness, I am prone to day dream. I often float away on the soft clouds of my fantasies, drifting high above reality in the vast blue sky. As a writer, these fanciful mental journeys sometimes lead me to imagine what my perfect writing environment would look like. I am not alone in this wistful contemplation; many other authors, painters, and musicians join me in exploring this mental path, each envisioning their own versions of the ideal creative escape. Some yearn for extravagant spaces, like a sprawling historical library, or a high tech office.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

During this semester, I have grown tremendously as a writer. I have become more open to noticing the flaws that I have and had in my writing. There are many parts of writing that I was ignorant about when it comes to writing such as the rhetorical appeals of pathos, ethos, and logos. In my previous piece of writing, I was one minded whenever I wrote which has drastically changed over the course of the semester. However, the most difficult aspect when writing is the collaborating the different parts of the writing and making them work.…

Like most children who grew up in a bilingual environment, I had trouble discerning Japanese and English when I was growing up in California, since I spent most of the time with my mother’s family. Because of that, any English I absorbed through PBS shows was mashed together with Japanese to form Japanglish. Then I briefly attended preschool in Naha, which made it even worse. I barely made it to elementary school. My kindergarten teacher recommended me to stay another year, but my parents refused to allow it.…
