Personal Narrative: My Educational Experience In High School

Improved Essays
What I have learned from my past educational experience in high school is that life is not always fair. I have learned getting good grades is long and hard work, and that if you want to achieve good grades you have to manage your time and work around being able to study and have fun as well. I have learnt that joining clubs has helped me have fun as well as learn things I enjoy. I have learned to manage my study time to coexist with my cheerleading and track practice times, as well as my work schedule. Although there has been times throughout my high school career that has been tough to do both studying and extra curricular activities, my parents have helped me strive and push through it all. There has been times where I have thought about quitting my extra curricular activities, but my …show more content…
One of the classes that I took that has really helped me throughout high school, and that I believe will keep on helping me is my oral communications class. I was never really one to speak out and voice my opinion because I was scared and too shy to do so, but that class helped me change that. After having to get up in front of my peers and speak and give speeches, I was able to speak out more and talk to people more comfortably. This class experience will keep helping me when I move on in my life, due to the fact that I will be around new people and be in a new environment and situations, so I will have to be able to voice my opinion and be able to talk openly, even if it is to people that I really do not know. In closing after searching and looking into numerous colleges, i feel that East Carolina University feels like home. I am looking forward to continuing my education and growing into the best version of me with my experiences at ECU. Go

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! In my American government class, we use the term political socialization to describe the influence one’s family has on their own political identity. Although the political aspect of political socialization remains exclusive to the term, the concept that families have a profound influence on the social development of children is wide-ranging, even helping explain people's perceived value of a college education. In my own life, the expected influence of my family's experience with higher education on my own outlook never took. My family's own experience has presented me with both opportunities and challenges in pursuing my educational goals as well as testing the integrity of the goals.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

"I doubt she will ever graduate high school" was a sentence expressed to my family members, it was regarding me. These discouraging words were spoken out of the mouth of my own father. My high school experience at High Point High School began as frustrating then it became positive. Being academically independent, since elementary school, I did not feel that high school was going to be a major difference, but I did not take into consideration of a new ambiance with new challenges. One thing that remained the same was the fact that I was always reserved and I stayed to myself. I thought that in high school I was going to be able to leave my shell and be more outgoing. I was wrong, I am still shy and still quiet, but high school did teach me valuable concepts that I will carry on through college.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…
