My education is my responsibility. Teachers and mentors have guided me along my journey, but, ultimately, I am the only one who can ensure that I know the material. Since taking responsibility for my education, my capability for learning and working with my teachers has dramatically increased. Academic success is largely built upon a student’s work ethic and understanding the student’s learning style. My time in advanced classes during high school has forced me to become prepared for the realities of the work and expectations in college. As an AP student, my teachers expected me to take the initiative to ask questions and investigate topics on my own, whether that meant reading a book on the time period for history or watching YouTube videos
