Personal Narrative: My Ecological Footprint

Decent Essays
The quiz was very interesting and I must say I enjoyed it. I never knew the smallest thing that we do on a regular can make an big impact on the environment such as taking a shower. My ecological footprint was very similar to yours. I believe a shower is very relaxing so I tend to take 10 minutes showers when it could be reduced to 7 minutes to save on gallons of water. I was mostly amazed by only eating meat only one night a week. As you stated I believe I change maybe two things to make a difference.

When asked to define myself in one paper, I find it hard to show the details that I want to in the right light. When asked about my future after high school, I also have a hard time describing everything I want to get done because there are far too many things to name. The quote “ _____” (i want to be everyone and do everything and there isn’t enough life to do it all in) describes me to a tee, and I believe this college is the place I could do this in. Being a shy person for most of my life, many things were difficult for me. Specifically, last summer I had the opportunity for a summer job.…

I took a hike on the High Acres nature path, with my Mom, Sister and golden retriever, Tobey. When I first entered the trail, the path started really wide and began to get narrower. Along both sides of the trail were big tall weeds hanging over and rubbing against you. When we were getting close to the pond you could hear the different types of birds chirping, grasshoppers clicking, and bullfrogs croaking. We approached our first intersection, and decided to go left on to the old, white, wooden bridge.…

When I grow up, I want to change the world! Changing the world one day would make me feel really good. Three ways I would change the world are: make sure everyone has a shelter to live in; help more lost, sick, and hurt animals, and make sure no one is hungry. I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

Though I’m still developing my legacy, I like to think that most people who know me, regardless of how well, consider me a person that can put a smile on nearly any face. From my time in high school as photo studio assistant getting babies to giggle on camera to my work as a personal trainer cracking jokes to help clients through the worst parts of their workouts; I learned that a little laughter can improve any situation. While this is a fairly simple impact to have on people, I do believe that it’s a powerful one. My own experiences with bereavement, chronic ill health and periods of poor mental health have shown me the value of a person that puts in the effort and time to get a smile out of someone. Though happiness is a pretty fleeting…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…
