Personal Narrative: My Easter Break

Decent Essays
I have always been passionate about helping others, and last year, I took my ambitions to the next level when I created my own service trip to Colombia. I contacted a plethora of organization, but considering my Easter break was short, these educational organizations respectfully denied my aid. My help was finally accepted by a local convent in Bogota that houses women who are physically or sexually abused; as well as, their children who attended the convent's nursery. During Easter break, I traveled to the convent in Bogota and for ten days, I worked alongside the nuns, as well as getting to speak with the young women living in the convent. The nuns and children accepted me with open arms and gratitude. I taught the children American nursery

Last semester was definitely the hardest for me. I have two challenging research papers toward the end of the semester. I find it hard because I did not know what to write about and which assignments I should start on first. I manage to overcome this challenge by narrowing the topics and start on the paper that was closest to deadline. My stress level was at 10 because I skip meals and stayed up all night long to finish my papers.…

Getting Shameless About Easter One Easter I dressed as a giant yellow chicken and scared a toddler close to death on the streets of London. It seemed like a good idea at the time. The concept was that a giant chicken giving out chocolate eggs to the children of London would create good vibes towards our church and spread a feel-good Easter message. My team and I bought a few hundred eggs, and I climbed into a professional chicken mascot costume.…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

As someone who grew up in a safe city with a supportive, middle-class family, and enrolled in a public school system that offered an abundance of valuable classes taught by extremely qualified teachers, I was blinded to how others live. As I became old enough to understand that the majority of people in the world would never live like me, I wanted to do something to change that. I was taken aback by the conditions of the families I was to help on my mission trip just south of me in Tennessee. I was not in the same United States that I knew. But that wasn’t what shocked me the most.…

The Sunday after Thanksgiving, I rather spontaneously---or perhaps, I’d like to think, by the work of the Holy Spirit---got on a night bus and went to church. I arrived at St. Mark’s Cathedral to a contemplative Eucharist in their beautiful chapel. It was soft and lovely and quiet. I love the quiet. I sought it out when I came to college in Seattle, living in “the big city” for the first time this fall, more than a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of people everywhere.…

On Monday, November 28, 2016, my family and I had dinner your restaurant to celebrate Thanksgiving Holiday. As a loyal customer who have been eating in your restaurant for two years, I was not happy at my recent dining experience at Homey Buffet during that time. Because of this, I would like Homey Buffet to grant my $360 refund request. I made a reservation a month ago for 15 people (9 adults, 6 kids) on the phone and speak to the hostess, Alyssa, who told me that my reservation has been scheduled smoothly. However by the time we arrived, we were told by same hostess that our reservation was lost and to wait 45 minutes in cold temperature outside.…

The Day I Grew Up Walking down the road to my first job was the day I realized my life had changed. My first real responsibilities were beginning and accountability was starting to crawl its way into my life. I would have to sacrifice countless hours of free time, hanging out with friends, and sleep in order to work. I relate to Schoonover because like her on the weekends, I would go to the lake with my friends and out to lunch with them. Also, since I acquired the job, I would need to start paying for necessities and extracurricular activities on my own.…
