Personal Narrative: My Eagle Scout Service Project

When it came time for me to begin thinking of an Eagle Scout Service Project, I wanted to do something that would ultimately impact my immediate community and last a long time. I did not want a project that would only last for a short amount of time, I wanted something that would last and leave an impact on others. With this thought process in mind, I also wanted to give back to a community that helped me become the person I am today. I decided I wanted to give back to the two elementary schools I attended, Evans Elementary School and Limerick Elementary School, both in the Spring-Ford Area School District. I saw the idea of the “Buddy Bench” online one day and it immediately hit me, that was what I wanted. The “Buddy Bench” was a simple …show more content…
I wanted to create a safe haven for students to go to. The “Buddy Bench” fosters friendship and inclusion, making a difference in a child’s life. Building the “Buddy Benches” at both, Evans and Limerick Elementary Schools, the schools I attended, really “hit-home” as it is a way I can help the community I came from, as well as to give back to the community that has helped me. Throughout my project, I was complimented on the concept, and set an example for the younger members of my troop. With the support of my troop, I had one of the largest turnouts for an Eagle Scout Workday for my fundraiser in our entire troop. Other scouts have asked me if they could do the “Buddy Bench” at other schools for their Eagle Scout Service Project, when they come that far in their scouting career, and I encouraged them to do so and to pass on the idea of the “Buddy Bench”. After earning Scouting’s highest rank, the Eagle Scout, it felt odd coming to the scout meetings, as an adult, not a scout. Not participating in meeting-activities has made me want to help my troop better itself, and in a way, help me help the troop. As a result, I am offering to help with camping trips we take (the aspect the adults handle) such as summer camp, aiding in rank advancement, and merit

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

For my service project I did two types of volunteering. One was being the president of Kilmer's Student Council Association (SCA). In SCA, a group of seventh and eighth grade students, including myself, got together about every other week, for an hour, to discuss, plan, and promote student events. Some of these events included student dances, holiday/seasonal games at lunch, fun runs, fundraisers and Kilmer Spirit Week. First, we would discuss what materials and how much time we would need to pull an event off, such as a dance, and plan activities to go with that event.…
