Personal Narrative: My Drive To Savannah

Improved Essays
I wake up to something kicking me in the face. Yawning I scoot over and go back to sleep knowing that Bella wants me to move. The next time I get woken up it’s eight in the morning and I get ready to go to Savannah. Traveling with my dog is no easy feat, but since she has separation anxiety it is a necessary one. Before every trip we go on I make sure to pack Bella a backpack full of her favorite toys and treats so that she knows we’re taking her with us. The drive to Savannah is only an hour, seeing we’re staying in Tybee Island. It’s over a 100 degrees out and I dressed the part. I wasn’t worried about me, but I was worried about Bella. For two weeks, I stayed in Charleston, South Carolina. I didn’t know much about the place, except that I referred to it as an army town because that’s where my sister and her husband, who was in the military, stayed. I was reluctant to go, but Charleston had a lot to offer me; a new change of pace and some new scenery was much more satisfying than spending the two weeks stuck in Iowa doing the same old routine. The weather was mystical in Charleston.…

The traces in my mind of my life in Tennessee escaped my thoughts as the salt water breeze took them away. The blankets of snow, that I once knew, turned into white grains of sand that coated the steps of every shop and the bright green blades of grass were now blue curves of water that left me in a trance with every movement. Each house by the shore was painted a different bright color and was home to a collection of beach related trinkets, including broken shells, used as decor, and sand filled jars which were left by past visitors. A hammock was hung on the top story which became my safe haven of fresh air and solitude. Each morning I swung to the slow, crashing of the waves as the sun began to rise.…

It was 11:45 pm, we had the car packed, the moving truck loaded and on its way, and all of our goodbyes said to our family and friends, and set out to our new home in Georgia. It took us about 13-14 hours, but we finally arrived at 1:23 pm having driven the entire night, exhausted but still eager to see what is in Georgia. When we stepped out of the car for the first time, we were welcomed by a brisk December afternoon with a light breeze, something completely different from the sweltering heat of the south that we were told about. After adjusting ourselves from sitting for so long, we went and started trying to get everything settled. Once everything was settled, we started our first day of school.…

I am about as religious as a dead rock.…
