They say that what you do in your life and what you make time for defines who you are. I myself have scheduled my life around drill team, there is never a day I go without doing something pertaining to drill team. I have served as a line member for four years, dance officer for 2 years and Captain my final year of eligibility. There is no other program like drill team, it's a place where I can go and leave all my worries at the door and be surrounded by 20+ girls who genuinely care for about me. Drill team has become a huge part of my life because I used it to cope with my struggle.
My freshman year of high school I hit rock bottom in my life, I was officially diagnosed with depression. Depression is by far the worst thing anyone can go through, you lose control of your own emotions and you forget how to feel. This was my very first year as a member and it was early on in the year and I didn't want anyone to know what was going on because I didn't want to seem weak or "begging for attention" I told my drill team

Every day I get to walk into the rehearsal room and be completely vulnerable to my sisters, no worries, and no judgment. It's far more than just a drill team but more a family. My former Director impacted my life far more than anyone has, she has made me as strong as I am today. I am not afraid to be myself and wonder if I'm good enough, I love getting to see girls who once lacked confidence shine and be their true self. Drill team has made me who I am and I cannot imagine my life without it. I have been given some many opportunities through it such as the ability to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City. Alongside that I go to travel to New York with my entire team and my mother, staying on Time Square and see two Broadway shows, one which was the World renounced production of Cats. These are some of the many things I was able to do provided by Drill

When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…

Also during, my freshman year, high school I was a part of the girl scouts, Troop 75. It was a great knowledge to be a Girl Scout leader because we got to go on different trips, help the community out, and be an example for the younger children to be a leader not a follower. I learned how to become a better person and live by the Girl Scout Rule, which is basically the golden rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated.…

Most people feel most confident and accustomed to what they live with everyday, making life changing decisions very difficult to make. Me being one. I danced on a Competitive Dance Team called Dance Dynamics, and never expected to ever leave. I was brought up a question by my former dance teacher asking if I ever considering being on my High School Drill team.…

I never been held more accountable in one school year other than my senior year of high school, I was taught how to build off the good and not the bad growing up. In high school I played football, and my senior year my football team hired a new coach, Coach Robbie. Coach Robbie has lived in the same city as me since he was a child, so he knew how hard the streets were, and knows how to make someone not to settle for what it is that they do not want. Coach Robbie held people accountable, a great father, and a smart man.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
