Personal Narrative: My Definition Of My Hero

Improved Essays
My definition of a hero is courageous, strong, loving, bold, and a fighter. I know that my hero, my grandma, fits this definition to a T. My grandma had an encounter that changed her life forever. In March of 2016, she heard the horrific news no one ever wants to hear. She found out she had breast cancer. She went into the doctors for her normal yearly mammogram at Stanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Little did she know this regular yearly appointment would change her life forever. After this initial appointment of the mammogram, the next step was to further investigate the doctor’s suspicion about the cancer. A few days later the doctors ordered a biopsy. A biopsy is a sample of tissue taken from the body in order to examine it more closely.

The stage of a hero's journey I associate with to the most is stage five. I associate with this because I meet new people every day and some turn out to be a whole lot friendlier than others. As a result of this, I have made numerous allies and enemies throughout the years. One example is that in second grade I was transferred to another class along with two other girls. Those two girls ended up being my best friends for six years.…

Joseph Campbell, the creator of the hero’s journey, did a lot of research on ancient mythology. He discovered that many heroes travel the same paths to becoming a hero. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…
