When I was in fifth grade my girl scout troop decided to get the bronze award. We all choose a community project. My friend picked helping for the day at APL. We donated $20 to our local APL. We walked the dogs and even helped feeding them. I had a lot of fun not just because I was bathing a big dog with my friends but because I enjoyed helping out. After looking around the room and noticing all the delighted expressions on people’s faces, I, too, opened my letter. I swiftly read the paper and instantly became disheartened. I didn’t make it. After all of my advanced classes and extracurricular activities, it still wasn’t enough to ensure a position as a member of the National Honor Society. I was utterly devastated.…

Semester of Learning Experiences People most always say, “ Learn from you mistakes and achievements.” I would definitely conclude that is exactly what I’ve done this first semester of college. There are many times that I wanted to simply curl into a ball because of all the newness and unfamiliarity. At times I found myself doing just that, but realizing that I needed to toughen up burst from my comfort zone. I can say sleeping through your classes never the best choice, not going just because you find it too easy, missing a class just to write a paper for another class, and differentiating between minimal and highly important status of choices.…

During the time of my years that I have lived, I have not faced any challenges that were harder academically than taking AP classes. Throughout my years I have faced challenges like riding a bike, walking on my own two feet, or driving a car, but nothing like taking your first AP classes in the senior year. Throughout high school, I kept it out of the way that I would ever take honors or AP classes, but here I am now taking my first AP classes. As now being in the middle of the first 6 week grading period, I have overcome the challenge by doing better on focusing a lot more on school work and not procrastinate and also giving up on certain things like not spending too much time on games lower all the fun activities at a minimum which benefited…

The National Junior Honor Society is a very prestigious program that rewards students for their service in their communities, leadership skills, citizenship, and character. Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School highlights these important qualities and I honored to be selected to apply for the society. I believe my morals, love of service, and leadership skills make me a strong candidate to the National Junior Honor Society. Community service is a rewarding activity that, sadly, not many teens and preteens participate in.…

I was smiling the whole time as the skin around my neck was being ripped off. Well I wasn’t actually smiling and as brutal as I made it sound, it wasn’t as horrific an event now that I look back on it. The incident occurred while I was on Spring Break during my freshman year in high school. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee;which if I might add we’ve been there about eight times since I was seven years old. I remember clearly that day down to the exact temperature.…

My first year of high school was winding down, teachers had covered all learning material, and most students were preparing for finals. June had just begun, and along with studying, I had an upcoming saxophone recital for which I had been preparing since April. The Tuesday before my recital, I had my second to last lesson with my teacher, Fred Scerbo, before the recital on Sunday. I was preparing a piece by Charlie Parker named "Anthropology". Despite its difficulty, I felt that I would be able to perform it well.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

The year of ninth grade, when I took my first Advanced Placement classes, was also one of my most frustrating years. In ninth grade, I enrolled in AP Physics and AP Human Geography. During my elementary and junior high career, I was used to not doing as much work to get A's in my classes. I was ignorant to think those same methods would get me through what was essentially a college course. After receiving my first test back in Human Geography, I was petrified to see my first C on a test.…

Nurse Aid Program Answers 1. Growing up, for volunteer and community service work I always went to the animal shelter and helped walk dogs. When I got old enough to do volunteer work myself, I began volunteering at Brookhill Farm in Forest, Virginia. At the barn, I would exercise my horse, groom, clean out stalls, help with feeding, and anything else they needed. Even though this was just with animals, I still learned how to treat the horses and people I was around with respect and care.…

Integrity is a big word for a little girl. It’s a word that my family has shown me, taught me, and helped me understand. Growing up in a religious household I was expected to behave correctly and to do the right thing. Honesty was key and if I wasn’t honest to my mother and father, I didn’t hear the end of it. Having strong morals was also important because it formed the personality that I now have.…

Community service is something I have grown up doing. Throughout my life I have volunteered a lot of my time to organizations within my community. I have served at the community soup kitchen, helped young Monett Water Thrasher Swim Team members improve their strokes, and volunteered as a table worker at Monett High School and Monett Youth Club wrestling tournaments. I have always been very involved in helping individuals within my community. I feel as though performing community service as a child and young adult has shaped me into the person I am today.…
