My dad is one of the hardest working people I know. He would always stay late at work and do more work than he should. He always does the baseball leagues job of taking care of the baseball field’s condition by mowing the grass, watering the dirt and dragging the Turface. My dad would pick me up from school and take me to work with him whether it was to his actual job at the movie theatre or at his second job which was taking care of the baseball fields. I always enjoyed working with him because that meant I got to spend time with him. Around the beginning of every year my dad and I would go out to our little league and take care of all four baseball fields. It is very important for us because we are of high authority to our league. Not many people take care of the fields or don’t know how to. We are proud to know that we are helping. As I was dragging the major division field one of the owners of the house across the street came outside. He started getting mad at us because the field was so dry it was blowing dirt at his house. After I told my dad he said we would water the field so the dirt stays on the field. When he tried turning on the water it wouldn’t turn on. We walked over to the school and asked if they could give access to the water. We were lucky that a family friends was there and she turned on the water for us. After watering the field and starting to drag the field again the lawn mower shut off on us. The last person who used it used up most of the gas and never took the initiative to refill it. My dad took the initiative drove off and bought gas out of his pocket and refilled the lawn mower. My dad and I always go out of our way to make sure no one else has any

It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

I signed with the Red Devils in 2014 while still in high school, receiving a scholarship to play for them during my college freshman and sophomore years. Although I originally planned on majoring in education to teach math and science at the middle and high school levels, my interests have shifted to focus on sports therapy/physical therapy due to my involvement in sports. I have been playing baseball since I was seven (7) years old, dedicating a large percentage of my time and energy to be the best player possible. Because I was always on the…

I questioned why he benched me. He told me that “I had not shown him that I deserved to be the starter.” “That if I actually worked hard I would have made him unable to take me off the field.” I ended up calling my dad for advice. He explained that because I didn’t work hard and didn’t show my coach how much I wanted and deserved to be the starter, I had lost my opportunity, and that if I ever got another opportunity I needed to be ready because you never know how many opportunities…

My life in 800 words… It seems like an impossible feat to describe someone’s lifetime in such a small amount of words: the good, the bad, the days of adventure, the days of crying, and all the days in between. Throughout my life I have been blessed to have parents who saw the value of education and pushed me to do the best I can. They suffered greatly for my education and by sending my to St. John’s Prep, they both suffered financially as well. My childhood can be argued as the opposite of the stereotypical American family dynamic.…

The golden question for sports parents to answer is, “How involved is too involved?” Although the answer to that question can be quite opinionated, I feel as though it is based on the individual child. As a parent, you have to ask yourself the question, “Is my child having fun playing sports?” If the answer is, “No”, then ask, “Is it because of me?” If parents answered honestly, there would be many that would say no to the first question and yes to the second.…
