Personal Narrative: My Cultural Identity

Culture is the most difficult concepts in human social sciences and each person has their own definition of culture. Many people can understand the concept of their culture but can’t really identify their cultural identity. Why is it that people can understand culture but can’t understand the concept of cultural identity? Cultural identity is what makes you who you are whether it is the gender you were born, the economic status you were born into, your family, sports you play, or the state that you live in. My cultural identity is that i’m a female that was born into a wealthy economic status in the state of Louisiana. Notably, being a female at the age of fifteen is part of my cultural identity. I was born into a very wealthy economic status. Since I was born into a wealthy economic status many people most likely see me as a very wealthy or rich person. Since my parents didn’t have the best economic status growing up they make sure i have a better economic status growing up than they did. My parents know how hard it is to have a low economic status so they try to give me a high economic status by having a great job to pay for things that i need or want. My economic status reflects my background very well.

Living in Louisiana is also a huge part in my cultural identity. Being from Louisiana is an important part of my cultural identity because it defines where i’m from and who i am. I’m from the south which means i’m cajun. Being cajun is a part of who I am because it defines what culture i’m a part of. Cajuns like spicy food, hunting, trail rides, and zydeco music. We like to have a good time. Living in Louisiana has shaped the way I look at things and it has shaped the person I am today. \ In conclusion, my cultural identity that i’m a female that was born into a wealthy economic status in the state of Louisiana. Each thing shapes who I am whether people see it on the inside or the outside. My cultural identity is different from everyone's. No person can have the same cultural identity because each person has something different that identifies them. My identity is unique and unlike anyone elses
