I have not been thinking differently but I am surely endeavoring. I have an arduous time changing things about myself so at this point I am just gradually endeavoring. After reading these two chapters I endeavor to disunite my emotions from my thinking due to the fact that they incline to get me into an abundance of trouble. Prior to making decisions, I stop and notice first if I am allowing my emotions to get in the way. I ascertain no emotions are tied to my decisions just so at the end I get a good outcome.…
I believe that I will be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I will have a certain level of flexibility in functioning with different group of people. This is because my most of the profile dimensions are in the middle of the extreme ends. This means that I can easily adjust in any kind of environment. On comparing my Cultural Profile with my home country's plot, I found that there is a very close relation between them.…
The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…
Through the years, I have moved to almost 3 culturally different countries, my experiences have been nothing less of hectic. From changing to country to country to school to school. I have be-friended people from all around the world and have managed to gather a few bits and pieces from each of their cultures. It is so fascinating finding out about traditions around the world. To strive in a multi-cultural atmosphere would obviously be tough, but I have thankfully done it more than once.…
My Culture I am a mix of two cultures. I am half Mexican and half American. Even though I am half Mexican, my spanish isn’t good. I can’t speak spanish fluently and I tend to strudder a lot. My spelling is pretty bad too.…
When I was younger, I always kept a book by me. Books accompanied me everywhere, to the mall and to my relatives houses. I was called a bookworm, and still called it today. I’ve read books, and collected them. I have over 100 books in my room, and have a library in my house.…
“Deeper Into my Life” Individuals are unique in their own ways and one of mine happens to be my name, Darrnyejah Bolds. Everywhere I go people have a hard time pronouncing it. Many people have given up and just refer to me as “Ms. Bolds,” but also I have two nicknames “Nye”, and “Nyejah,” which is mostly used by family and friends. Over the years, I have adjusted to my nicknames and became very comfortable with them. I entered this world on February 27, 1997 with the zodiac sign of Pisces.…
My own cultural competency is built on a lifetime of international experiences. I grew up on the Dominican Republic, where I attended high school. Later, I was awarded a scholarship by the Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) program to study Graphics Communications at Modesto Junior College (MJC), Modesto, CA. I was surrounded by cultures different from my own, I was encouraged to identify and value both the commonalities and differences of the human experience. As a student, exposure to diverse peoples was instrumental in shaping my worldview and values.…
I feel like not matter how much I study the culture and the language it will never be the same unless I go experience it for myself. One thing that I am really excited to witness first hand is the food, and the Buddhist temples. I have always been a big fan of the food but I am sure that it is so different than what we have here in America. I hope to one day be able to visit Thailand market on water, and eat great food.…
I found creating my Cultural Bag was challenging, as I do not feel I had a vibrant culture growing up. Both my parents were born in American. One of my grandfathers came from Germany and spoke German, but I never meet him. I had a grandmother who grew up farming, but lived in another state and I never saw her. When I think of culture I imagine people learning traditional cultural dances or having grandparents that shared their cultural experiences.…
What’s my complete heritage is it only one or a couple? Heritage has never been an endeavor I have looked into and because of this I know very little about my family’s origin. My grandmother is originally from Ireland and the only reason she ever came to America is because she found a man she really loved. That is the extent of all I know about my heritage and family history on that side. I will now try to explain the way of the Irish people and the traditions they uphold, as well as some history.…
In today’s world, relating to another culture can seem impossible. One might have friends from another culture but being able to see how they live on a day to day bases can be astonishing. For me however, relating to another culture was never really a challenge. Being that my dad was in the army, I had to move around a lot with my family. The places that I’ve been and the people that I’ve meet have shown me that life is never really how it seems.…
The way I was raised was always interesting to me, and I thank my family any time an odd situation arises regarding my cultural heritage, status, or any other issues which had formed in my life. The shift from Philippines to the United States was never a rocky one for me, but I did find it difficult to accept a handful of changes, weather being one example. Another drastic change was living in a rural area to a heftier, urban setting. My social status in society never clicked with me when I was a child because it was confusing.…
I come from a culturally diverse background and have changed schools four times in three different countries in my school career. These opportunities gifted to me from God allowed me to get myself out of the comfort zone and become vulnerable so that I can stimulate internal growth and wisdom that I can share right now with all international students. What helped me on my journey to make the most of my international experience was obtaining knowledge about cultural norms, values, behaviors and issues. I have also learned the importance of the flexibility to adapt to new situations, open-mindedness to encounter new values, resourcefulness and problem-solving skills. Are you wondering how to obtain this skill set?…
A life of Adventure This morning as I knocked on the door to my fiancés apartment and her roommate Margarita answers the door. I don’t know if it is normal in the Ukraine to let your friends stand out in the cold, but after a few awkward moments she let me in the door. Over the past several weeks I have gotten know Margarita, and though we have extremely different lifestyles, and I have come to admire her adventurous spirit. She has a passion to visit foreign places, she has a thirst for knowledge that few possess and she doesn’t let anything stand in her way.…
