Personal Narrative: My Concern In Childcare

My concern is about the fact that the children are taken outside for more than 15 minutes in the cold, rainy or misty weather. Both my granddaughters have been attending the location in Morrisville since the beginning of October 2015. Those girls were never sick for more than 5 days, but have been sick since the third week of attending this center. Although I have no complaints about any of the teachers, they are loving and caring, I do feel that it is up to the adults to decide when the weather is favorable to let the children stay out for more than 15 minutes at a time. Yesterday, January 7, my younger granddaughter was outside for over 45 minutes in a 40 degree misty weather; that was despite the fact that I've called the Director and …show more content…
We pay for our children to be looked after so that we can work, so that we can make the weekly payments for their care. No, to have a sick child and jeopardize our jobs because we need to stay home to care for him/her. As working parents, we cannot afford to stay home and watch the kids, we need to work. It seems that the parents' concerns are not taken seriously and, or are viewed as frivolous complaints; parents are shown zero empathy when it comes to their children.

In my opinion, if the law requires the children to have physical activities throughout the day, then the center must make provisions for those activities, if conducted outdoors in the cold winter, or hot summer, to be for a short period of time and make sure each child is properly dresses. Again, this should be to the discretion of the adults based on the child's health, and not based on a law that it is intended for the general population. The center should have an indoor playroom for those occasions when the weather is too severe to be
