Personal Narrative: My Computer Science Class

It wasn’t until high school that I really began to understand how I could actively utilize that pragmatic and enthusiastic part of myself. I reveled in the increasingly abstract problems and concepts from my math and science classes that discouraged my peers. Despite that, the only class that managed to completely captivate my attention was my computer science. Every problem that I encountered in that class seemed like a thousand piece puzzle with only the tiniest of clues to hint at a way I could solve the problem; the challenge was intoxicating. Equipped with greater knowledge about computers and code from my teacher, I could take on more daunting challenges and projects than I could have ever imagined when I was nine. Everyday I could go

Pre-Experience Journal Entry I was born to be an engineer. I grew up playing math games, building lego sets, and taking apart electronics. My Senior Capstone Experience (SCE) will definitely be in the area of engineering. More specifically, I would love to do either computer science or electrical engineering, as these are the areas I want to major in when I go to college. I came to GSMST because I have always had an interest in engineering, and GSMST has only made that interest stronger.…

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

My Learning Style My learning style is auditory, it can help me learn because all I have to do is make sure I listen and more than likely I will succeed. Also, this will help me in sports because if I listen, then I will always know what to do. Such as, different plays and my teammates advice. In addition, I already read out loud.…

Everyone has their own kind of sacrifices for better or worse. Sometimes we offer these sacrifices as a means to provide protection or some ray of hope. Tutors are known to be educated in whatever subject they tutor in as well as being extremely patient. Though some do it for free or may charge a fee, it always comes down to how much effort they put into each session and ultimately the result. I remember a particular event during sophomore year of high school, I offered to tutor a young freshman girl named Misha.…

“Don’t just play on your phone, program it.” This quote by President Obama, which hung in my AP Computer Science classroom, resonated with me from the first day. The class introduced me to the world of coding, but also inspired me to create and learn beyond the classroom. Most importantly, this class bonded a group of my classmates who shared a passion for computer science.…

Come a little closer, I want to let you in on a couple of secrets: my first thoughts and final thoughts of my first College Composition course. My first thought midway through the first quarter was all I need is to get an A, but how on Earth am I going to accomplish that if this crazy grading scale was in my way. Little did I know that it actually takes a good team to receive the grade that each of us want. My role as a student of College English 110 was attend class, participate in class discussions, help stimulate ideas for other classmates, complete all assignments, and much more. During certain occasions, I contribute to the class by stating my opinions, assist other students in his/her work, and revise peers’ drafts.…

During my last few years of middle school, I stumbled upon an engineering and technology workshop when visiting high schools. It was then when I first saw computer programming in action: a group of students clicking away on their keyboards, formulating lines of code. With each passing instant, I was captivated as their nimble fingers glided across the keyboard. Knowing little about this field of study, I turned around to my father, bombarding him with questions. However, he only replied with: “that’s for boys, don’t bother.”…

“We know what we are, but not what we may be” (Shakespeare 207). When I was in elementary school back in 2003, I did not know that there was an unspoken rule of not involving ourselves with people who were deemed as “inferior” in the school at the time. I also did not make the connection that I was considered as an “inferior” to the eyes of my peers at the time. At the tender age of six, I liked to wear hair bows with bright colored dresses with two pigtails, a usual young girly girl style. Despite of my feminine appearance, I liked to play interactive sports like handball, baseball, and basketball.…

I distinguish myself especially in the specialized courses. For example, I achieved the highest point in many computer-majored courses, such as operate system and compiler theory. Such accomplishments implied persistent endeavor, active thinking, and analytical mindset, attributes which are sure to pay off when undertaking studies in computer science. I can also keep pace with the new developments in technology through extensive reading, develop comprehensive set of capabilities in the course projects and become an independent thinker through class discussions. Believing “Experience is the best teacher”, unlike other girls who lack of the ability of practice, I am totally in to it.…

I am currently majoring in computer science engineering. It is a field that is reasonably racially diverse but completely dominated by males. In my Computer Science 205 class, there is a total of 5 girls including myself and 30 males. This creates for an interesting class dynamic that I was not aware of until recently. When you walk into the class, all the female students are sitting on one side and the male students are on the other.…

Importance of Coding in Schools Computer programming or coding is becoming an extensive part of today’s society, we use a programmer’s work daily with our mobile phones and computers. As we continue on in advances with technology, our schools should be providing classes that will keep our nation’s students up to date. Offering these computer science classes to all students as early as kindergarten should be encouraged, because the schools best interest is within what skill sets our children will need for future use. “Our civilization is experiencing unprecedented changes across many realms, largely due to the rapid advancement of information technology.…

Another reason I chose computer science is because computers are shaping the direction our world takes and I want to play a part in that. The idea of writing a program that helps a physicist decode the secrets of the universe or a doctor discover a cure for a serious disease holds great appeal for me. Computer science is a continually growing field and with computers becoming involved in almost every aspect of our lives it should remain so for the foreseeable future. Thanks to computer chips imbedded in everything from basketballs and shoes to computer-controlled thermostats more and more computerized data is being produced daily and to manage the acquisition, storage and use of this data will require computer scientists [1]. While sending jobs overseas will slow some aspects of computer science-related job growth overall computer science jobs are expected to continue growth through 2020 [3], [4], [5].…
