I was taking Pre-calculus, General Chemistry III, Understanding Environmental Data and Information, which was too big of a course load in conjunction with how much I was working. In Pre-calculus I was required to complete a Skills test or my grade would be dropped and unfortunately the time to

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

The sky was thickened with smog blocking out the sun which gives the sky a orangish gray look. The streets polluted with random junk and homeless people who blend into their surroundings. The cars drive over head as I walk under the highway towards the skatepark, oil drips from above. I look for my friends to tell them the news. They probably won’t have any feeling for what I say since nobody gives a shit about anything, not even themselves.…

In my education, I want neither too rigid of a core curriculum nor to loose of one. Yale has the perfect middle where there is a third part of the curriculum that is my choice, allowing me to study my other interests outside the range of my major. My decision to attend HACC was due to financial needs. Originally, my educational plan was to attend Penn State Harrisburg as a double major in Political Science and Psychology, to which I have already been accepted. However, the opportunity to attend a community college with a very strong relationship with my main institution was one I could not pass, especially given the lower cost of attendance and high transferability of credits. My goal is to transfer or graduate from HACC without having accumulated debt so that my time at Penn State Harrisburg will go smoothly and be most worthwhile. I feel fervent that I have made the best decision for my current life situation.…

My college search has brought me to many universities: visiting campuses, and talking to students, alumni, and faculty. While I could receive an excellent education from any of these schools, Notre Dame offers something "more. " I first noticed this something "more" through a contact I made with Kyle Cowdrick, ND class of 2015, who I have been emailing back and forth with over the last year about admissions, Notre Dame, and the college experience. I once asked him why he bothered to use his precious time to mentor me, someone he barely knew before, his answer: "It's the Irish way".…
