Personal Narrative: My Community Attending College

Decent Essays
Prior to attending college, I served my community by aiding those in need within my neighborhood doing tasks such as maintaining homes and yards for individuals who were convalescing. While living in Lancaster, California, I participated in the Love Works Program which focused on assisting individuals with diverse helps and doing community service projects. I also led recreational activities on a weekly basis for the Youth for Truth Program at a local park. Currently, I help plan and lead recreational, and instructional activities for youth at my church and participate in an outreach program that ministers to needs of the elderly.

Being the first in the family to take interest in college is already enough for everyone to push me in the direction to achieving it. I do not want to disappoint them or myself, I want to be on the graduation stage with my hand grasping that master degree. About me, others describe me as opinioned, stubborn and independent. Although I do not want to admit it, these traits all apply to me. I started attending Lone star college right after high school, at first, I began with the typical high school graduate state of mind, which was that college was going to be a breeze and that it would all be fun and games; more worried about what was going on in my social life rather than studying the books. Especially since I had no real responsibilities to handle or much life experience. Around my first year of college, I started dating this girl and not long after we conceived our first son. Once this happened, my focus slowly shifted from school to working a full-time job at a welding shop in order to provide for my family. I still tried to attend class but was unable to find the balance between work, school and family and this reflected my grades.…

Once upon a time I was in an enclosed elevator in Hecht Residential College at the University of Miami. As I stood there, I noticed several interesting things, such as everyone who entered were either already on their phones or immediately took them out, all not brave enough to interrupt the awkward silence. I was particularly intrigued by the resident assistants, dressed in fishnet stockings and morph suits, handing out candy to each student who entered the elevator.
