Personal Narrative: My College Courses To Achieve My Goals

Improved Essays
This semester was a challenge. I started college courses for the first time this year and I picked up three of them to start off with. It was pretty difficult balancing three college courses and soccer. I worked hard everyday to keep my grades up, and it payed off. I’ve only had one B in my whole life, and it shouldn’t have been. I hold myself to high standards and get upset when I don’t reach them. Being so hard on myself made everything an even greater dispute. It was difficult, but I achieved my goals. The most difficult aspect of this semester would be getting my grade up in Calculus. The first test grade was a 75%, which made everything harder because in order to get my grade up I would have to get a good grade in everything else. I worked …show more content…
I worked hard to get my grade up in Calculus. I remember checking schoology non-stop after every assignment, studying for hours on end, and working on homework until I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. I pushed myself because I believed that I could get my grade up to an A if I just worked a little harder. After a couple tests I checked my grade and it was an 87 and I knew I had enough time to get it up to an A. It’s like a marathon, you work hard all the way through and even when you feel burnt out you still push yourself and just keep thinking about the finish line. Once the finish line is visible you still find enough energy to kick it in for the ending and then the results blow you away, and you think to yourself, “I just did that. I really just did that.” That’s where I am right now. If someone needed advice about Calculus, it would be to not wait to study, try hard on the first test, and just work hard and put all of your effort into it because I promise you, it will pay off in the …show more content…
It was difficult to find time to interview my subject, which was my mother. My family is always busy and my mom and I are constantly running everywhere. I had soccer practice everyday for high school and when I got home she would have to take my brothers to practice. The only time that we would both be home around the same time were the weekends, but even then, it wasn’t that long. I had to squeeze it in right before bed one night. Luckily, I got the information I needed in order to write the paper and get a decent grade. The project was very long and it took a lot of time and hard work in order to get it just right. Some nights I wanted to just give up, but I can never settle for a low grade, I had to get an A. The recording was the hardest part, I probably recorded the same reading like eight times, it was horrible. I could still probably quote my paper. I would recommend everyone to get a head start so you don’t have to try to cram an interview in at the last second. I would also interview your subject as soon as possible because it gives you more time to work on the actual paper. It may be difficult at the moment, but it will pay

I thought to myself that I should stick too what I am good at which is History, Geography, French. But no, that summer I made a vow to myself that I would average an over 90% in all of my courses. Secondly, going into the grade 8 exam season, I knew I had something to prove to my parents, my friends, and especially myself.…

I pushed myself to my own limit to get my work done, my final grades didn’t reflect the amount of effort I put into my classes. My concussions occurred during several different months, which destroyed multiple marking periods of grades. However, I aimed for perfection during my sophomore and junior years, succeeded in maintaining a B average, with constant migraines triggered by minor events. Eventually, this turned into a learning experience because it taught me that I can try harder during my senior and college years.…

In order to earn the highest grade possible in any class is to stay positive throughout the school year. There are several things that I have thought of that will help me achieve an A in this course. First and foremost, there is one saying that I learned here at Johnson & Wales and that is the term, “Mise en place”, which means everything in its place. I believe this term doesn’t just take effect in a kitchen environment. This term is a lifestyle and many chefs live by this.…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
