With the younger ones I have to be very specific and a lot more patient than I have to be with the older boys. The reason for that is because most of the younger players that are there are only there because their parents needed a baby sitter. The others love the game, but just are not sure how it is supposed to be played. So with the smaller children I have to start from the beginning and get them to learn that they have to dribble and not run with the ball. When I did my practice, I made sure from the start that people were paying attention using a strong firm voice. For the beginning of my practice I made it competitive from the start, and everyone one wants to win so everyone was focused. Even though I made it competitive, it was fun as well. During the drill I had them do, I would make sure to walk around and encourage everyone. Not only would I encourage them, but I would also give them tips if they were failing. I’m glad that I was able to be a part of this class because I was able to learn more of what I thought I already knew. I will use these competitive strategies in the future to keep my players engaged, because I don’t want to have boring practices. I’ve been a part of some of those and I just couldn’t wait to get out.
