This week the experience I encountered which helped me reach my clinical objective was quite adrenaline-charged. Upon having a patient return from their dialysis treatment they were found unresponsive by my preceptor and I. Being able to communicate with my preceptor on the next steps of activating the rapid response team (RRT) as well as getting more hands on deck was a big step and definitely a different role than that of just a student nurse. Once the RRT was in place, communication was absolutely

All we can do is move forward and work as a team to provide the utmost best care we can to get our patients back to their optimal level of well-being. This experience definitely began as a very frightening one but once your adrenaline kicks in you unquestionably jump into nurse mode and this was evident in everyone in that room. It also showed me that I am very empathetic because afterwards I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotions; only a few hours prior I was communicating with this patient and here we are working on them. It really puts into perspective how important it is to think critically as well as collaborate with your interprofessional teams. Some areas this experience taught me that I may need additional knowledge in would be other assessments or procedures that are carried out during a code dependent on the patient’s status. This will help me gather more knowledge for future events and help me build the confidence in myself and my skills to provide the best care I

Clinical Context & Experience I completed my final two shifts on 11/24 and 12/1 at Sharp. The unit had a pretty large census both nights, so we were fairly busy both nights. During this shift I had to notify the doctor twice and felt the most relevant journal topic was advocacy. The first night I had three patients which included a 84 year old man who sustained a hip and right shoulder/humerous fracture from a fall at home and a history of HTN, CKD, MI with coronary stent placement, and diabetes, an 86 year old woman admitted for rapid A-fib with history of TIA, HTN, CHF, and rheumatoid arthritis, and finally a 35 year old woman who was being discharged following her treatment for polynephritis. During my final shift, I cared for a 71 year…

I’ve had the opportunity of completing my clinical rotation at Baptist Hospital with the medical team in which I've observed the different participants in the collaborative team and the specific role each person played. The team consists of physicians, surgeons, social worker, ARNP, physical therapist, and occupational therapist. While observing the team, the best outcome for the patient's treatment and prognosis is focused on before being discharged. For example, if the patient does not have insurance coverage, community resources are addressed to assist and provide the patient with the proper care post discharge. Learning how cares for patients that have been newly diagnosed with various neurological diseases as well as their long-term care…

The New London rotation was a wonderful opportunity to see not only different areas of nursing that I have the opportunity to go into, but also to truly experience and see what patients are going through when they enter a hospital setting due to presenting symptoms or for a surgery. I was able to experience people’s panic and distress when they enter the emergency department and found it particularly enlightening to be able to see how the staff addressed the patient’s increased emotions as well as the emotions of the individuals who were bringing the patients in. I believe it is incredibly important to learn how to correctly identify individual’s emotions, especially in a high stress situation, and be able to address them appropriately. Personally, I don’t not know how to correctly go about in addressing these types of situations and always find it helpful to learn from others who have been doing this for many years and have great experience with it.…

My initial thoughts of Population and Community Health Nursing (PCHN) is that this nurse deals with more than just a patient medical diagnosis. From my readings I came to learn that this is very true. The PCHN not only deals with the patient but families in the community and in their own home environment. I learned a great deal from the YouTube video from our class reading this week.…

She believes in active teaching, demonstrated in the teaching strategies she uses to help her students achieve their goal of becoming a registered nurse. An innovative approach to teaching that Dr. Barra, implemented during our clinical was her constant hard work and networking within the hospital to get students actively involved in their learning process on as well as off the floor.…
