The LHS nurses were very good in reading students body language and determine if their complains are real or they just want to miss a class. One of the students professionally imitated his/her cough with vomiting. The nurse recognized the common patterns: usually students do not accept any medical treatment, refuse to call their parents/guardians about the complaint, and come up with another issue if the first failed to convince the nurse. In my future career as a nurse, I will definitely implement the experience I learned during the school clinical rotations: be patient, be proficient in reading patients’ body language, and be ready to any possible unpredictable/awkward situations. One of the protective measurements LHS implements is the vision and hearing screening. Teenagers do not always initiate a conversation with their parents about vision issues. Also, the only one reason why students fail their hearing test is the accumulation of serum in the ear. The school nurse is the first person who notices those issues and draws parents’ attention on time. Seven years ago, when epidemic of staph infection was prevailing in the area, the LHS nurses educated students on proper hand hygiene to prevent spread of infection in the school district by leading “Wash away germs for clean hands”
