Welfare has always been a major point in today’s politics; every election the debate is brought forth once more and again when the Federal budget comes to the floor. It is assumed by many in the population that the program is for the lazy and encourages the poor to not find work or continues to have dependents to increase the amount of benefits they can receive. Many argue that it is the “right” of the individual to receive aid from the government when they cannot support their family. Others agree help is warranted but there must be limits set to avoid fraud or the program becomes not an aid but a way of life. Over the course of our nation’s history welfare reform has taken on many new faces and gone through many struggles.…

The Person I have chosen to write this forum on is my mother. I grew up in a home where her parenting style was very authoritative. This has strongly made an impact on my life and how I am perceived by my friends and others. My mother was very consistent with boundaries however; she was always open to discussion. My mother had furthered her education in child and family services and therefore, implemented many skills in our home.…

I was able to use many different responsive care giving strategies to be able to bond with my focus child and make my learning experience much more meaningful. I was also able to connect with my mentor teacher and pick up many different skills to not only apply in class and on the assignments but at my job and in my future career field, as well. I believe I work well as part of our team at Nicholson House, I am aware of and fulfil my own duties but where possible I try and support my colleagues. We carry walkie-talkies with us so we can contact each other around the building, if I have a cancelled visit or some free time I’ll ask if there is anything I can do for my colleagues if they are pushed for time and they need me to do a visit, or they need support with something. Where possible I try to pick up and cover extra shifts, I can also be flexible when it comes to my shifts, I am aware that sometimes people have little notice about not being able to do their shift so where possible I am always willing to swap. I have full confidence that where I believe I am a strong team player…

I wish I could say everyday at work was fun and easy, but when working with children that is never the case. I started working for the Moon family at the beginning of my senior year of high school, where I came after school and kept them for a couple hours everyday. Each day was the same routine. The same salty snack, the same daily dirty chores, and most importantly the same crazy kiddos. Back in the spring I was asked keep them over the summer, and little did I know what I was getting myself into.…

My First Time Babysitting It was a dark rainy Friday evening, school just let out for the weekend and I was free except I still had one thing to do left, as I was doing a weird walk jog across the campus while trying not to get soaked just to get to the main building, as my phone started to make this weird ringing noise and obviously I got a bunch of looks. When I looked at my phone I saw that my dad was calling me and when I answered my dad told me not to walk home in the rain and just wait it out. Once I got to the main high school building, I walked through the maze of hallways and lockers, and finally just finally I made it to the front of the building. It was still pouring down rain when I looked out of the window, by this time the storm was almost through…
