Personal Narrative: My Changes In Middle School

Improved Essays
Once, as a child, my mother told me I would change as I got older. At the time, I didn’t believe her, I thought that I would always stay the same throughout school. But, now, I know that I’ve changed, physically and mentally. Especially during Middle School.
I got smarter in middle school because I know more math strategies and formulas. When I joined 7th grade PACE math, I didn't know anything about dilations. I remember asking what they were. As the days went on, I finally caught on. Even before that, I learned volume of awkward figures, the pythagorean theorem, and lots of missing angles. This definitely was a sizable change to me that I loved. Instead of learning adding and multiplying, I got smarter and learned harder concepts.

There was one area though within my capability of understanding (I sound like a famous philosopher now) that I notice has been improving thanks to what I have been learning so far; before I was having trouble when an exercise was presented to me and the information given was a mix of words, numbers, percentages, etc and you had to decipher them, well I am getting good at that which in my opinion is a big accomplishment, as one of my teacher used to say once you are able to decipher the mixed information you already have solved half of the problem and man he was…

I also knew it, but I was lazy and careless. I am thankful that I have grown up and that I have begun to respect all of the opportunities given to me in life. The areas that I have improved in are definitely my study habits, and not being afraid to ask my teachers for extra help. I used to be afraid that my teachers would think I am stupid, and that they would judge me if I admitted to them that I didn’t know how to do something, or that I couldn’t do a problem. But I have recently grown to realize the it is essential to the learning process to ask your teacher 's question.…

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

The rest of the year was great to me, I finally saw the rainbow. I gained many new friends and I was/am doing fairly well in my classes. I overcame an obstacle of mine that was really large, and I am proud of myself for doing so. I finally got to see what it looks like when the clouds part. I went from being a stress mess to a straight success (maybe not success yet, but soon).…

Prior to middle school, I thought I was satisfied with my position. I had friends, got along with my teachers, excelled in sports, and got decent grades in my classes. Back then, I thought this well-roundedness I sought between these necessities would offer me self-satisfaction. Little did I know, however, that I was going to confront this well-rounded nature of mine during my first awards ceremony in middle school. Among the most intelligent, artistic or athletic of the students present there, I was the one of the few who simply struggled to stand out.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

I was able to perceive reading and writing in a more deeper and understanding level, actually see the purpose behind it all. People sometimes do something and never really asked, “why?” I feel like that’s what I was missing in high school. Seems like Teachers follow a linear teaching style and never question the course curriculum they have to follow. Never go into a more understanding of what a course is about.…
