I’ve faced a lot of challenges in my life. One of my biggest challenges was when I was younger and on the cheer team. I’ve always had a fear of heights and falling. When I first joined the cheer team, I faced a challenge of being one of the flyers.

Before I joined the cheer team, I’d been in tumbling. I was practicing so I could try out. I had to know how to do a back handspring, walk overs, handstands, cartwheels, and many other things. When the time finally came, I had to go to the cheer clinics where they would teach us a cheer, a chant, and a dance. We learned them all in one day and practiced the other two days. When the two tryout days finally came, I was well practiced and ready. I did the cheer first, then the chant, and lastly the dance. We would find out if we made the team the next day and luckily I did make the team.

For the first few weeks, we would just practice for upcoming football games and get to know our coaches and teammates. We learned new cheers, chants, and dances. A few weeks after doing a few of those practices, we had to find out our positions. Like if you are

Unfortunately there was no one to do it. The coach asked me if I wanted to do it. I was scared but there was no one else to do it so I decided I would face my fear and do it. I knew all the stunts, but my only probably was letting them put my in the air. The time had come and it was time for the stunts. We were all ready. I jumped up on there hands and I was in the air. We did a few stunts and then they dropped me and caught me. It actually worked. I didn’t fall and they caught me for every stunt. It was really fun so I finally decided to become one of the

I learned those much easier than some of the other girls did. After spending two days learning the cheers, it was finally time to show the judges what I had learned. When I stood in front of them as they told me which cheer to do, I just kept thinking to myself, "Remember to smile, make eye contact, and if I mess up just keep going." And that 's exactly what I did. Throughout the whole cheer I kept a big smile on my face, I made sure to look at…

Everyone in the world has something they use to escape, mine happens to be dance, as it has come through for me at many instances in my life, one in particular that possessed a lot of meaning to me. I was a junior in high school and co-captain of my varsity dance team with an exhilarating week ahead because we had our first competition of the year on Saturday morning. On Wednesday of that very week, my best friend Hannah and I had decided to take an unusual route to school just so we could skip homeroom and stop at our favorite little cafe. We were jamming out to the new Justin Bieber “Purpose” album when all of a sudden one of the main intersections of our compact city was completely shut down. We were beyond puzzled until we saw what looked…

From nailing new stunts to sideline cheers at football games to going to Disney for Nationals there was always something to look forward to. I tried out for varsity when I was a freshman and after being an alternate for a week or two I was on varsity. I had finally found something that I was passionate about to stick with. That is until I attempted to throw my back-handspring without a spotter holding me and broke and dislocated my fingers. For those that are unaware, a back handspring is when you propel your body backwards onto your hands in a handstand and then spring up from that in one fluid movement.…

As I have progressed through my high school years, I have been extremely fortunate to have been exposed to and to have experienced multiple leadership roles within the organizations at my school. With that said, I have discovered that possessing a leadership position is more than just a role, but the qualities that support it. One recent event occurred when this year's cheerleading sponsor anointed the honor of directing this year's Senior Pep Rally to the Senior class Officers. Under normal circumstances, we would have accepted and executed the plan with ease, but, considering the short notice was two weeks prior to the actual date and not a single Senior knew about it, we were forced to take immediate action. Unfortunately, due to…
